Hi guys!
First of all, I would like to wish everyone good luck (whether you are studying for DAT, taking summer classes, preparing for interviews... etc)

Many posts here have been a great help and I thank you guys!!

Anyway, it sounds like a lot of people here emphasize the importance of applying early. I know it is very important especially if your stats are on the border. However, I am seeing posts that say things like "it's already too late" "even July is late", etc..

It was under the impression that applying in June, July, or August didn't really matter as long as you get your interviews done before December (since that's when dental schools send out their first set of acceptance letters). Do people who apply in July or August usually not get interviwed until later? Is that why it's important to apply in June?

Thanks guys!! 🙂😀😉

good question. i am curious too.

I screwed up in 2005 and failed to contact the people who I had write my LORs before the semester ended. Because I went to a small school that didn't have summer science classes, I had to wait until the fall semester started before I could even ask them if they would write my LORs, so my application didn't get sent in until the beginning of Sept. They got the LORs out fairly quick. I was able to get all my interviews by mid-NOV - about the time schools make the decisions on who will make the first acceptances on Dec. 1.

Now, does this mean to wait until Sept. to send it in, NO! But to say it is too late, that is wrong. It is true that a lot of schools send out acceptance letters for most of its seats in Dec., but they do that knowing full well that there will be quite a few tht will turn down their seat because they choose another school. Plus, they are not going to fill all their seats right away. They know very well there are still going to be very strong candidates applying late.

the sooner u get ur stuff in the earlier ur app will be reviewed and the sooner u will get interviews. if u havent even completed aadsas by end of august i would say u are late. if ur stats are very strong u may be okay but its not worth the risk.

My application was submitted about three weeks ago (printout still has not been mailed though). My GPA was verified about 10 days ago. My school's Health Profession Advisory Committee is evaluating my LORs (this probably will be done and sent to AADSAS by August 25th). Also, I just took DAT yesterday and I hear it takes about 2-3 weeks until dental schools receive my score.

Do you think the schools will get to my application so that I can be included in Dec 1 notification pool? I just hope there won't be a looooooong wait by the time my application gets to the schools 🙁

i applied late in my first cycle & got 1 interview. next cycle i applied on the first day & got the same results. it depends on your situation. if you have great grades & scores, you have a bit more leeway than if you don't.

hmm well if your school doesn't have your LOE file ready yet so that will take time. Then once they do mail it to AADSAS I predict it will take about a month before your LOEs get sent to schools. I'd say your looking at late september before the schools get the letters. If U can can send them to the schools directly then I'd do it but most schools just like it forwarded from AADSAS just follow directions. Some schools will offer interviews before getting the letters but for the most part they won't bother reviewing your app till they get the letters and your file is complete. I don't know too much but maybe U can make it to some schools first acceptance pool.
