Im currently a grad student getting a masters degree in psychology. It has been my plan to go to medical school since my sophomore year, when I realized I wanted to become a psychiatrist. Unfortunately, by then I was taking the first semester of bio and neglected to enroll in the lab (didn't think I would need it at the time). Until very recently I was under the mistaken assumption that my AP credit in Biology was enough for schools to overlook this missing semester. Now I have all my other credits complete, and I'm studying for MCATs with the plan of applying to medical school next year, but I don't know what to do about that missing first semester of Bio Lab. Can I take the course anywhere over the summer and have it count towards my requirements? I'm really nervous that my bad information has thrown a big wrench into my application plans.

Just as background, undergrad GPA: 3.49 (with steady improvement after a shaky first year), grad GPA: 3.87. I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but I'm fairly confident I can pull off a 32-33.

Very sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm new to the forums.

Yes, you can take it anywhere. The local CC is fine.

You can take it during the summer. You can take it next year. As long as you have completed it by the time you matriculate, you'll be fine. And picking up missed prerequisites at a community college isn't going to look back. I did the same thing.

When you apply and fill in the transcript, you're allowed to enter Future coursework so med schools know you plan to complete the class.

Nearly all med schools permit you to complete the requirements prior to med school matriculation. There are a few exceptions that you'll have to avoid.

Thanks so much for the responses, they were really helpful. I'm looking into look into summer session classes now. The places that I've looked at require you to take the the actual Bio 101 course in addition to the lab, so I sent a couple emails asking if it was possible to just do the lab. If not, no big deal.

Again, thanks for the info, I really thought I was in trouble!

Did you finish the other prerequisites?
