There is absolutely no advantage to being a CA resident, unless you attended UCD or come from the IE. UCD will consider you IS if you attended high school in CA even if you move to FL.
Only MD, WA and UT are as bad for IS matriculation.
Yes FIU and FSU are mission specific to some extent. Doesn't make them Loma Linda or HBMC's. They are still definitely worth an app if you are a resident. FSU in particular has one of the lowest MCAT medians of any US MD school.
UF and USF are not particularly mission oriented type schools. Youre at a big advantage IS for them.
Miami wants to raise their class median: the standards for consideration academically are different IS vs OOS regardless of what lip service they give you about how the state has reduced funding to them. Youre at an advantage IS.
I dont know alot about FAU and UCSF but from what I've seen they arent particularly mission oriented.
All state schools vary in how they view applicants who just moved over. Some states will look at people who moved recently different than life long residents: many states though really dont care much. I dont know the specifics about Fl but there's a good chance out of the number of schools there, youll find at least a few who dont really have much issue with this.
CA MD matriculant stats: 3.75/33
FL MD matriculant stats: 3.7/30.8
There is no advantage to being in CA except for specific circumstances. Fl is clearly the superior option.
