Hey all

Long time lurker here and wanted to get opinions about applying to ASDOH. I live on the east coast and only have about 350 or so volunteering hours total, so would it be worth it to apply there? From what I've heard, they like applicants with a crazy amount of volunteering hours (nearing 1000 or so), is this true? My reasons for wanting to apply are that I like how they take a slightly different approach to dental school, incorporate volunteering with the local community into their curriculum, and my parents used to live in Arizona a long time ago and really liked the area (have some relatives there now still).

Thanks!

I say go for it, especially if you feel like those are quality hours. Take some time with the secondary. Open to PMs if you want more info (don't go there, but I know it almost a good as my own a school). I think they still get more applications per seat available than any other school, but it's a worthwhile 'risk'.

The ASDOH supplement only allows for up to three activities to be listed in each section. I have more than three..they're listed on my aadsas app.should i email asdoh my other ec like the app says? It just seems kinda redundant, as that exact ec info is on my AADSAS

Oh, yes! Their secondary is pretty important. I mean, all of them are, but they're competitive and you'd rather be sure they know about your experiences than assuming they'll get what they need from your primary app. They asked, so give it. And here, you can elaborate. Don't go overboard, but it's an opportunity for them to get to know you better.

It's not all about the number of hours, but also the quality and significance of your volunteering work. There is also another dental school in AZ.
