Applying to derm with bad skin

Is it like a dentist with bad teeth?

I wonder how much of an uphill battle it'd be with patients and getting into a residency

I would personally prefer not to wonder and just fix the issue. In between getting appropriately prepared and appropriately dressed for an interview, it wouldn't hurt to see any appropriate healthcare providers (whether they are dentists, podiatrists, or dermatologists) prior to interview season.

I do wonder about what the culture is like even after getting into a residency though. I feel like you hear stories about how much someone gets judged by other Derms for having mild acne. Right or wrong, that would be an important consideration for me going into the field. Other thoughts?

I went on accutane before interview season for this exact reason. I don't think it makes a difference in what people think of you but it did boost my self confidence, which in turn, made me feel more comfortable during the process.

There are enough things to worry about in and after residency. If it bothers you enough, there are plenty of coworkers who can appropriately assess you as a candidate for Accutane (a few of my co-residents took it as residents)

would you take advice from someone about acne when they don't have it under control?

That's my point..I'm not sure. I think it depends on how severe it is, but that's just one person's opinion. People with perfect skin I think woud also make acneic patients nervous so I could see that being a con too!

How about applying to ob/gyn without a vagina?

How dare you have a skin disease during a derm interview! Have you no shame?! Have you no morals!? Have you no respect for the perfectly-skinned dermatologists? You imbecile!
