Hello everyone!

I am applying to many Florida schools, and I am currently an Ohio resident. However, I lived in Florida for a little over 5 years, got married there, got my AA there, and transferred out during my bachelor's degree program, and I still have family there as well as many friends there. Would this constitute as very strong state ties and put me on par with in-state applicants?

I think it’s school dependent. Some schools very much want students who currently live IN the state and anyone who doesn’t is oos. Definitely apply to UCF bc they’re more oos friendly than, say, FSU. Having family ties is a big plus because it means a strong support system. Definitely wouldn’t hurt to apply to all the schools down here (and we have a lot, which helps your chances lol)

Strong ties in my book!

Strong ties - yes!
Same as being IS - probably not.

Either way, as an OOS who applied to Florida schools with NO ties whatsoever and still was accepted, it's more important to be clear about your intention and desire to attend the school than to prove that you'd attend through your strong ties

I applied to all of the southern Florida schools from Tampa down and got interviews at all but Miami. My only tie was my grandparents live there and I didn't even mention that in secondaries.

Out of curiosity, do you mind telling me what your stats were and what Florida schools you applied to?
