4th year DO student applying IM. I did not take Step 1 and barely passed Level 1. I'm currently signed up to take Step 2 and Level 2 by the end of this month however I'm considering canceling the Step 2. My practice scores are just not as high as I would like.

I was wondering how much this would hurt my application. I'm going to apply IM and will be applying to DO friendly places mostly. Need advice. My hope is to do Endo fellowship. How much does only having comlex hurt my chances of getting into a residency program?

It will hurt your chances at large academic institutions. It will NOT hurt your chances at the many historic DO programs. I hope you have a few audition rotations at historic DO programs lined up. Michigan has a ton of these programs. Let me know if you have questions as I did a lot of auditions there.

You should have no problem matching at places outside of the big MD-named institutions. The same goes for endocrine fellowship. I don't agree that you need to have audition rotations, unless you're targeting some specific big institution

I was a COMLEX only applicant, scored decently strong on Level 1 and fine on Level 2 5. I am at a university program in the midwest but had significant reward exposure prior to. I will say that being a COMLEX only applicant did impair my interviews to university hospital programs as you get screened and not even looked at until later if they want to interview more people.

All that said, there are still many university programs in the midwest and many coastal communiversity programs that have integrated endo fellowships that you can still be considered with COMLEX only.
