Hey

So im a current PGY-2 planning to switch specialties. Im re applying via ERAS right now. I havent told my current program director that i want to switch specialties. I plan to after I get enough feedback in terms of interview invites but im scared they will contact my current program director and ask about me. Is this a reasonable fear? Do you guys think they would call my program director PRIOR to inviting for an interview?

Thnks

More likely, a lot of places simply won't consider your application without a letter from your PD.

Agree-know a lot of people who have done that, but you absolutely need to talk to your program director. Don't think it will likely work otherwise. You never know how they will respond-they might be really supportive bc with how many people want to swap/switch they could probably fill your spot if you want to change. If I were you, I'd do it ASAP so you can submit your PD letter or at least make them aware.

Please also look on resident swap or the AAMC website to look for vacancies. Not a lot of openings, but tons of people looking to switch.

Are you getting interview invites? My PD is supportive of my decision to change and have agreed to help me get into a new program, however, still no reference letter 🙁 I only have 3 invites so far and one interview offer but only after a letter from the PD is provided.
