Hi everyone, I had a question concerning the number of schools an average applicant applies to each cycle.

My main question is: Is it possible for someone to apply to ALL optometry schools in the US (since there are only 20)? Or is that not recommended?

Also, if possible, can someone please provide me with some insight as to about how many optometry schools they've applied to/are going to apply to and if they were asked about it in the interview? I have my top choices narrowed down, but I don't want to rely on only those in case I don't get in, which is why I want to apply to every optometry school (I know, it probably sounds crazy, which is why I'm asking for insight).

Thanks so much in advance!

Most people I know and talked with, applied to anywhere between 3 and 7 schools. It all depends on the strength of your application. I applied to only NOVA, where I was accepted. But I would say it you are applying sometime soon, just apply between 3-5 school for the most cost effective and will give you good chances for a few interviews. The schools will ask how many you applied to and the reasons for applying to their specifically.

Hopefully this helps.

I would be surprised if anyone has ever applied to all 20 schools. It's just not necessary at all, and you should save your money. I applied to six, and I would recommend choosing a few schools that you would seriously consider attending and apply to them. Schools will ask you how many you applied to, and they are probably expecting to hear normal answers.

I only applied to two and got in at both. Applying is expensive ($55/school) and I wouldn't recommend doing that. Plus you have to pay for secondary apps. Just not worth it. Apply to the ones you really want to go to and I'm sure you'll do fine depending on your stats.
