Applying to Pharmacy School with BS in Business from University of Phoenix ?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's the online university right?

I've noticed that some schools don't except online science courses.

As long as you complete the pre-reqs (ie your science courses, public speaking, etc.) then I don't see why not. It's a fully accredited institution right?

ftfy. Otherwise, spot on.

You CAN. But be aware that it will probably be looked at poorly. If you have the chance to go to a real university AT ALL, do it. University of Phoenix doesn't really have a lot of cred.

qft. glorified open-enrollment CC primarily profit-driven..

wikipedia said:
The University of Phoenix is frequently cited as the most prominent example of for-profit colleges that operate primarily for the purpose of exploiting the government for educational subsidies. Students of such schools often find their degrees to be worthless when they are not useful to get the jobs they had hoped for, and as a result, many such students default on their educational loans. A patchwork of laws allows such schools to shift the burden of repayment onto taxpayers.

:idea:On the other hand, this might be an asset to (pre-)candidate mills.

A guy at my mom's job used to be an "admissions counselor" (if they can even be considered that, I'd personally call him a glorified salesman) at University of Phoenix and he said profit was their ONLY goal. Supposedly they'd go as far as signing people up even when they didn't attend the school just to meet monthly sales requirements.... Horrible business practices at best.

University of Phoenix has a ****ty ****ty, scratch that ULTIMATE ****ty reputation, I'd be very leery if I were an adcom in accepting a graduate to my school (unless it's a pre-candidate diploma mill). A CC graduate would probably have a better stance in applying to a school.

Can I apply to pharmacy school with a bachelor degree from University of Phoenix ?

Thank you

Enrolling in the University of Phoenix, at the first place, is not a wise decision, knowing that using a degree from Phoenix to transfer to other college is a poor academic strategy. 😱

and that's what happens when I don't proofread my posts. :-]

OP: I can see you getting away with using the econ and other basic classes from that degree. However, if you want adcoms to take you seriously, show that you can complete the rest of the pre-pharm classes with a 3.5 average at a reputable institution.

U of P offers ground campus and online schooling for various undergraduate program. I also know that enrolling in U of P was a bad move for my career. Trust me, very bad move. I'm barely able to find a decent job. Anyhow, all of my prerequisite courses would be completed at local community college.

Does it matter if prerequisite are from local cc than four year state college?

thank you.

But seriously this thread is in jest, right?

Seriously. Reason I consider U of P in the first place was because of financial saving. You see, spouse of employee of U of P is eligible to attend college for fraction of the cost.

Hi Nagcareer,
Just wondering, why are you considering pharmacy?

What did you get your degree for at UoP?

How about an master degree from reputable institution to demonstrate strength to adcom ?

I always had an aptitude for pharmacy school but never had the confidence in myself to see me go through it. I always ended up settling for something that I would regret later on, taking the easy way out . I'm also sick and tired of being unemployed, under paid and stressed out everyday . I feel that its time I finally go for what I dream of doing since 8th grade, so here I am.

🙂

Hmm employee..

I personally think you would have a decent shot at getting in as long as you took all of your pharmacy pre reqs at a different college 👍

You don't . Prerequisite would be completed at local community college.
You CAN take labs online. My whole A&P sequence was online-labs included. You would be surprised to see what kind of lab simulators we use. The only thing you can't do through computer is smell and touch. Everything else is pretty real.

Its very possible to A&P online because in real labs, they mostly use the ADAMS computer program to adentify the structure and slides. But courses like chemistry, orgo, micro etc can not be simulated. Plus lab work is a skill you learn by doing . Simulting can not give you those skills. That is why they call labs "practicals". Simulating labs is like having a doctor do his residency onlinr. He will kill the very first inpersom patient he meets.
