Applying to Postbacc before rejection?

Hey everyone,
I want to apply to Drexel's IMP program, but haven't received an acceptance/rejection/interview from them yet - I'm worried that my application to the IMP program might give them cause to reject me. Should I hold off on applying, or wait until I get word from 'em?

i don't think applying to the post-bacc will give them reason to reject you. if you're worried, send a letter of update to the med school adcom and mention that you want to matriculate at drexel so much that you are applying to their post-bacc.

I would think that the committees are different at Drexel for MD admissions and IMS admissions. I could be wrong, but they are separate at most schools. If that's the case, Drexel med won't even know of your post-bacc application.

isoprop's suggestion is a good one, but one might worry that using a post-bacc program as leverage would cause adcoms to go "gee we're not sure about this applicant but if he's going into a post-bacc, we'll find out just how good he is next time."

Along those lines, do those individuals who enter in to SMP's or some type of formal post bac do so after applying at least once to a medical school? I'm actually considering of applying to a SMP before I apply to medical school. Or would it be the wrong thing to do to apply to both a SMP and multiple medical schools the same application cycle? The SMP at Midwestern is starting to look really attractive to me and from what I hear if I do really well, then my odds have SIGNIFICANTLY improved to get in to a medical somewhere, if not at the host institution itself. Finally, if I apply to Midwestern's SMP and also AZCOM in the same cycle will adcoms know this and if so is this a negative thing? Thanks all for your advice and feedback.

generally at SMPs, you'll encounter people who have applied and have been rejected and people who are applying for the first time. the only exception is tulane i believe which requires that students be waitlisted/rejected if i remember correctly.

you want adcoms to know. include it in your application. it's a good thing! read the official guide to smps.
