A few questions about applying to Prelim Medicine programs, that I have not found answers to and would appreciate if people who have successfully applied to Neurology before can answer or anyone can chime in.

1) LOR: Do you request separate LOR's for Prelim or do you use your Neurology LOR's? If you request separate LOR's, how many letters do you need for Prelims?

2) PS: Do you create a new personal statement specifically for Prelim or use your Neurology PS? If you create a new PS for prelim, what do you write in in, since they know you will be pursuing Neurology after that first year?

For me, I got separate letters. I had all neuro and neurosurgery letters for my neuro application (maybe one medicine, but I forget). For medicine, I used mostly medicine writers.

Regarding the PS, you will hear both schools of thought here. I just slightly modified my PS for medicine, adding some schlock about how an intensive medical internship experience in internal medicine would provide an excellent foundation for my future career in neurology/critical care.

Both worked for me.
