Hi guys, so currently im at a 3.47, if i work my ass off this quarter i can get to a 3.51 by june...also this is time im using to study for the mcat, so should i just focus on studying for the mcat instead and just get B's in my classes (amcas will be turned in before grades come out if i stick to the 3.47, so gpa wont be lowered)
Does AMCAS round, so would the 3.47 be a 3.5 anyway?

AMCAS does not around to 1 decimal point, they still have 2, so it'll be 3.47.

Study and do well on the MCAT, if you do amazingly, it'll offset your GPA>

it won't round, but i don't think it makes much of a difference. i applied last year with a 3.51 and this year with a 3.47, coincidentally, and i don't think that made much of a difference at all.

^ I don't think it made that much of a difference for you because you got a 41 on the mcat...

It prob doesn't matter too much, except 3.51 does look alot better on paper than 3.47.

At some medical schools such as LSU-Shreveport, this can mean a world of difference because they more or less make a cut-off at 3.50. Anyone with a GPA lower than that is unlikely to interview.

Yeah, I feel like this is probably the only GPA where that small of a change would matter. I feel like breaking the 3.5 barrier keeps your from instantly getting pigeon holed as a "low GPA" person.

I wouldn't just take low grades though just because your amcas is already turned in. Sending in good grade reports for Fall can be a big help if your academic performance (GPA) is the biggest question mark.

I got two acceptances with a 3.48 and a 31O, so just do decent on the mcat buddy.

+1, Similar numbers, and also had lots of interviews and a few acceptances.

EDIT: Although if you can get it up to a 3.5, it will be better. As that is usually seen as the "cut off" between low to decent gpa.

It kind of sounds like you're asking "permission" to let your GPA slide in favor of prepping for the MCAT. You should always work your hardest to get the best grades you can. It is really hard to judge where the effort for an A ends and becomes B, or C. Do your best on your classes and study for the MCAT too.
