Hi, I've had a burning question in my mind.. can't find the answer anywhere!
But I came across this forum.. and firstly i must say... it rocks lol.

But okay, i'm in a Canadian university now, jus finished my first year, and am taking Sciences (its general, would be completeing a B.Sc Honours in 4 years)

Now in first year i wasnt quite sure i wanted to do sciences, and a wavered between it and business, but i had a chance to work with my uncle in his pharmacy, and loved it. So i've made my deicision on becoming a pharmacist.

Reading up, I can apply to a US school after two years, if I hav completed all the necessary courses, GPA, and PCAT (which I am takin in 2 weeks), i'm in lol (in the most basic sense).

But my first year marks were pretty bad. Especially in the Chem/Bio, not that I couldnt do it, just had a lack of motivation. In second year, i'm hoping on gettin a 10 or 11 GPA in everything (outta the 12 we have, so I guess 3.8+ ? in US terms).

But a few questions, lets say my marks are garbage first year, but are excellent 2nd year, would i still be a viable candidate? Also, if I redo some first year courses, like chem/bio, how do US schools look at that, re-doing courses? Do they care?

And can i still apply using my high school marks to a 0-6 pharmacy school or even a 2+3 or 2+4, because I know i would be able to keep my GPA up, even though I am in university? Cuz my highschool marks are good, and I could take the SAT, which i think i would do quite well on lol, not to boast or anything?

Thanks a lottttttt,
Sunny

Out of curiosity, how come you're applying to the US and not Canadian pharmacy schools?

The 2+4, 2+3 programs are only for high school senior applicants, so no, I don't think they'll let you apply.

As for retaking classes, as long as you don't get a lower grade the second time, it should be fine.

If you have the required pre-reqs and PCATs done, as long as you make the minimum GPA cut-off, you have a chance. With a 3.8, you'll be at an advantage (sort of) seeing how you are above the average GPA.

To xeodragon - a Canadian university of Pharmacy is much harder to get into, seeing as there are significant low number of them. And obviously most ppl would like to stay in their own country so they don't hav to qualify when they come back from another country, so there's a lot of applicants. Also, I wanna work in like Las Vegas, LA, New York, to get a chance to live that life 😀.

To sle3pyguii - For my redone courses.. do they average it? Or can I just use the higher of the two grades. Also, if i retake the PCAT, again do they average it, or take the higher?
Basically what im askin is if i apply now, and then again in lets say a years time, with courses re-done with much better marks, and a better PCAT, will they treat that as a whole new application, or will they look back at my old stuff? (first time i took chem/bio, first time i took PCAT)

Yes I'll have to agree with you there, Canadian universities are quite competitive due to sheer volume of applicants and the low number of schools. Have you considered UWaterloo as a possible option? They don't get quite as many applicants as UofT and since it's a new school, I hear they're less stringent with the requirements and GPA.

Consider applying to UW. The school does not get as many applicants as UT so as long as you have most of the prereqs and have strong extracurriculars, you have a chance of getting in.

Oh as for GPA, you must have a minimum of 75%. I know that they upheld that requirement for 2009 admissions so I'm assuming they'll do it again for the next class.

Yea.. my bro goes to waterloo now... I like the school n all, and i'm planning on applying anyway.. but I would jus rather go to the States, so I can work there, live the American Dream hahah

anyway yeah... still need an answer for this lmao:
