Hey everyone,

So I recently pleaded NOLO to a misdemeanor for something very minor. "Driver to exercise due care" which basically means I was improperly using my cell phone while driving (not texting & driving though, I was entering something into the navigation). The judge agreed that it was very minor and reduced my fine since it is my first ever ticket (I am 21), but it's still on my record as a misdemeanor. It is also my first and only charge and my first and only conviction. I do understand the potential dangers of actions, and I have definitely learned my lesson.

Do you think having this misdemeanor will affect my chances of getting into medical schools?

Fully explain it, be totally honest and I think you should be fine. Just don't make excuses. Doesn't seem like a huge deal to me though.

Obviously not an ADCOM, but I think this is about as minor of an issue as a misdemeanor could be. Just be honest and act remorseful about it, and I honestly doubt it will have much of an effect.

Bro you should be more careful. You never know when some kid might run out into the street

so using cell-phone while driving? Tough call man. Anybody in this forum never use cell-phone when they driving (without blue-tooth), please raise your hand?

Not at all.

Not all misdemeanors are created equal, and it's kind of irritating. I used to live in a state where speeding tickets were misdemeanors, regardless of what speed you were clocked at! Yet at the same time, misdemeanors can also range to things like violent crimes (battery), moral turpitude (theft, prostitution), and others that will raise an eyebrow. In this case, just mention it. If it were worse, you would need to own up to it (like DUI or something like that), but in this case, no one will bat an eye. It's just that you were unfortunate to get this traffic offense in a state that counts it as a misdemeanor.

Be open and honest about it and take full responsibility for your actions and you should be fine.
Just don't make excuses for your actions.

I think you'll be fine. I have a misdemeanor too but much worse than yours. Just be honest and state the truth when asked. They will see it in your record no matter what.

I completed a diversion program to divert the misdemeanor from my record but it still shows up. Again, just be honest and let them know if they ask about it.
