I have read the other threads in regards to applying to medical school without having taken all the prerequisites but still have some questions. I am hoping to apply to med school next year. I took "General Physics" in Australia for 3.75 semester hours. I then took physics II at a community college in the United States. A few of medical school that I would like to apply to do not accept credits from foreign institutions. My Australian credits were transferred to a four year institution in the US but I don't think it matters to these particular schools. I am thinking that I have to take physics I over.

Here's the catch: I live in Oregon and OHSU doesn't seem to have this requirement. They specify that they require a year of physics but not 8 semester hours. Also all of Oregon's public institutions are on the quarter system and all the private, semester scheduled schools in Oregon offer physics I only in the fall. I currently do not live near any college or university and cannot move until this spring. In hopes that I get accepted at OHSU, I was planning to apply next June without taking physics I. Should I put in my AMCAS application that I am planning to retake physics I even though I am not sure where I can take it? Will medical schools still consider my application without putting physics I in my future courses section? Would putting physics I down in my future courses section force me to take the credit even if I am accepted at OHSU? Does it make more sense for me to move out of state to take the course this spring? I could take physics I in North Carolina where I had taken physics II, but that is a long haul.

I also have a similar question about biology II. I took most of my courses at a four-year college that does not offer biology II but instead cell biology as the second course of the general biology sequence. The head of the department said that he would explain the situation in his letter of recommendation. Will this fly with medical schools? I also took genetics and biochemistry.

The bio courses are probably fine, though you could check with individual schools to be sure. (A pain, I know.) Physics is dicier--it might be okay, it might not. Could you take it online if needed? (Oregon State has an online extension, I believe.)

I thought medical schools did not accept courses taken online.

OHSU definitely accepts at least some online coursework--just check what you're taking an where. (Not all online classes are created equal, or seen as such by the Adcom.)

This is not true at all, no matter what others on here want you to believe.

Call around and ask. Most all D.O. schools will accept online (lecture and lab) prereqs and a decent number of MD schools will, as well.
