As I am preparing the points I want to make in my interview and anticipating potential questions, I was just wondering what is your approach to the open ended, "So tell me about yourself" question?

Do you even mention school? Or just hobbies? Maybe highlight the major events leading up to this point in your life?

Thanks in advance!! 👍 👍

I may be naive, but I don't think this is one of the answers you need to rehearse for. Just tell them about... yourself. You know best.

i basically go brief on the biographical information and hobbies. if they ask about anything you mention...you can talk about that. but once that is all over, i just explain how i ended up on this path to medicine.

i mean its so open ended, you just start talking about the first thing that comes to your mind.

k....thanks guys.....I guess I am the expert about me!

Good luck all 👍

you could start talking about meaningless stuff: "well yesterday, i got up, washed, ate, went to the closet, picked out some clothes, i was thinking of wearing the blue shirt but decided with the green..."

they'll stop you because they're not interested in that. then you ask them what they are interested in hearing. now you got a more specific question out of them.

This question is as much about how well you react to general questions as it is about the answer you give. If you say, "Um..well...could you be more specific?" then they learn something about how easily you deal with questions like that.

I'd treat it just as if they said, "Here's an opportunity to tell us everything about yourself that you really want us to know, but are afraid might not come out in the course of the interview."
