prelim data

Overall # of applications to PM&R at lowest level for all years 2001-2006 this year. US apps lower than past 2 years.

949 (2001) 921 (2002) 962 (2003) 909 (2004) 918 (2005) 894 (2006)

US apps were on the rise except for 2006:

261 358 403 457 481 425

IMG apps on the wane except for 2006:

688 563 559 452 437 469

😴 😍 :luck: 😎 🙄 😀 😳

Hopefullly this will mean not many of us will be un-matched.
Seems like most people get one of their top 3 choices.

Thanks for the data...interesting attachment as well. No need to worry though...the small decrease in the # of apps really doesnt mean too much. Also remember this data is as of 2/10 - so nothing final. I took a look at other fields and several highly competitive fields (such as Ortho) also experienced slight drops in the # of applicants.

Bottom line is this: PM&R is on the RISE and should continue to do so in the coming years as people realize that it truly is the hidden jewel of the medical field. Great hours, great pay, great people. Every program I visited this year stated they had a HUGE increase in the number of QUALITY applicants. Also, no matter how many of the SEVERAL HUNDREDS of applicants there may be in any given year (all US grads and FMGs combined usually amount to >900), all these people are fighting for just over 300 spots nationwide. Doing simple math reveals why this specialty has become so competitive.

Can't wait for match day to come around...just over a week to go. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! 🙂
