I have been bumped from MD/PhD to the regular MD pool at three schools to which I applied, and I was wondering if that leaves me in a good position for MD at those schools (for being bumped to reg md so early) and/or in a bad position at the other schools (since I wasn't bumped yet, I may be bumped so late that I won't have a chance at even the regular MD).

I applied to MD/PhD out of sheer desire to enter the profession, and now I feel that I may have routed myself out of even getting into an MD program, as I am losing faith in my app by the minute. I know I am not the strongest MD/PhD applicant, to say the least, but I guess that in my naivety I had the faith that applying to the best program for me would work out irregardless.

I might be getting too caught up in hypotheticals, and it is only october, but being completed since mid-August and not receiving interviews yet has been destroying me..................:scared:

Would you rather take extra time off to strengthen your application or go to a program that you weren't initially as interested in?

You could consider applying to more programs at this point. I think a lot of schools have Nov 1 or Nov 15 deadlines so if that's something you're interested def look into that soon. If you used virtual evals it should be easy enough to get your recs in soon too.

You might want to try calling up/emailing the programs where you've applied MD/PhD and asking for your status. That's how I found out I was on hold at Case MSTP, and shortly after making that phone call I got an offer for an MD only interview. (I contacted them bc I was in the area for a Cleveland Clinic interview.)

And yes, remember that it IS only october! Many schools interview through Feb/March, so as hard as it is to sit back & wait know that you have months ahead of you & can't predict what schools will do between now & then.

I would rather go to a straight MD program than nothing, then if I had to, reapply to MD/PhD after performing well in my first year at a school. I am considering contacting the schools. I know that as of about 3-4 weeks ago, I was listed as "Complete and under review" when I called all of the programs (except the deferred to MD-only ones). I am not too sure if adding more programs is somethings I would be considering at this point, however, I do toy with the idea of asking schools to consider me for MD-only, and not MD-phD as I am probably more competitive for MD than the dual degree.
