same, april 19th at noon in NYC!

oh god, this is for real now. my heart was pounding when i forked over $210.

May 10th here, though it took a couple of tries to find a testing center with open seats. Those suckers fill up fast!

May 27. Anyone else having feel really anxious now that you actually have a date? I am terrified of this monster.😱

So when is everybody going to officially start studying? (esp. for the May 10th date)

4/19 12pm. Glad they are offering it at noon. Don't test as well at 8AM! Gonna officially start studying full-time 1/1/2008 and Kaplan course starts late Jan. Good luck everyone.

may 27th here also...taking it at 12pm...im with you, def feeling the pressure now that I have a date...but i'm practically gonna sell out between now and May, so here goes nothing!

Has anyone started studying yet for the April 18th exam? If so, what does your study schedule look like from now until then. It is hard trying to organize all the materials to study.

im taking the april 18th exam, but am in kaplan. you want to spend the first few months reviewing the material- there are plenty available books, and the remaining month before do as many practice exams as you can get your hands on- that will ultimately be your best prep

Heres my Plan for April 18th:

First off, classes I will be taking in the spring:
Pathophys + Lab
Anatomy + Lab
Physics 1 + Lab
O Chem 2 + Lab

My plan is to use Examkrackers and also alot of practice tests.

January: Review inorganic chemistries (chem 1 and chem 2)
February: Review biological sections (gen bio and micro) & Use EK for Physics 2 materials
March: Review vocab and do alot of reading comprehension practice.
April: 3 tests a week, one everyother day with a day off. On day off review weak materials.

Anyone else here studying for the April MCAT yet?
i am.. so far ive been reading the PR books, i already did bio, and im almost done with orgo. my plan is to finish the PR book by end of january, Then starting Feb. i will follow the EK 10 week study plan, i already purchased their complete study package. I work full time, so dont have as much time as everyone else, but starting in March, i'll try to do FLs at least once a week..

Now-January 2: Relax.

January 2-April 17: Study.

April 18: Dominate.

April 19: Party.

side note: January 2-April 17, I will probably just break it down something like this: (probably about 2-3 hours a day)

Mon: Physics
Tue: Inorganic Chem
Wed: Bio
Thu: O. Chem
Fri: Off
Sat: Practice tests every few weeks.
Sun: Verbal/Micellaneous (whatever needs work)

I've been owned by this ***** in the past, so this time I have a 4.5 hr a day study schedule (on top of school and work). It's challenging, but I'm doing it.

Right now, I'm in heavy review mode and finishing up classes in Physics II and Organic I as well as Cell Physiology. Starting in Feb, I'll have Organic II and Genetics.

I'm studying with all of the Big Three (Kaplan, TPR, and EK) and looking into the Gold Standard CBTs as well. This time I'M winning. You're going DOWN mcat!

I just registered for the same day and my plan is to max and relax until mid January after vacation, then read whichever EK book I feel reading whenever I feel like reading it. Go on another trip for a week in March, then study more seriously and do practice exams in the month leading up to the test. Not taking any MCAT-relevant classes; just going with Spanish and maybe a research management class or two.

yeh, i studied with Kaplan before.. this time im only using TPR and EK.. this sucker is going DOWN!!

YEP thats right add me to that list I have been studying about four to five hours a day since the beginning of the school year in August, I was planning on jan but i decided to wait, to gain more knowledge, to perfect my game, and by April 19th I will be a lean, swift fighting machine. I am planning on flying like a butterfly and stinging like a bee. So I hope you are ready for me MCAT, you have never seen a beast like me before and that I assure you, am going for a third round K.O.

Just registered for April 18th at 8:00 AM!!! Wooohooo!

I am planning on starting my study regime on the 17th of December, then Kaplan starts on the 8th...

Good luck everyone!!!

I've taken one practice test so far, given by Kaplan so I'm not sure which test it was. I got V8 PS 9 BS 8. I had studied pretty much through EK bio notes and obviously any studying didn't help. Am I doomed for failure on the real thing? It's been over a month ago now and it really made me not want to study since I felt defeated. What should I do to improve?

Keep on studying! I just took my Kaplan diagnostic last week and I got a 25: V 8 PS 7 BS 10. I was really disappointed BUT...I woke up the next morning and began studying. This test is just to show you where you need work. So use it as your baseline and dive in. Best of luck!:luck:

I am planning to take the MCAT in Jan 08. So I can't really say how kaplan will compare to that. BUT, I have taken all 10 (aamc 1-10) AAMC practice exams (starting with a 30 and now up to a 42 average). I have similar scores on examcrackers and Dr. Fernidad's Verbal section. When I took the kaplan diagnostic is scored SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER than what I am used to (8s and 9s)(after studying). I believe that though their review books for biological sciences are excellent, all of their other material does not even come close to immitating the MCAT (as compared to aamc practice tests). Their PS passages are far too lengthy and problems far too calculation based. Their biology exams are OK but not as representative as EXAMKRACKERS (or the actual aamc).

This dissimilarity is reflected in the range of scores that are acheived by kaplan students. Some students, who already have a good knowledge base and just need practice, do really well (and arguably just as well if they would have studied on their own). Others don't do well even with kaplan's help.

I also believe that the low scores are a marketing technique to scare people into doing the kaplan course. So dont' get discouraged at all. Your kaplan scores are probably not representative of your real one. Use your textbooks to study the materal, examcrackers to review (ESPECIALLY THE VERBAL), and aamc practice tests for speed and familiarity. Give yourself about 5 months of study time. Good Luck!

Test sites are through Thompson Prometric, so you can go to their webiste to see where the centers are. Not every site offers the test for every MCAT administration. The only accurate way to determine the sites for the date that you want is to register for an AAMC ID and go to the MCAT registration page to see what's available in your area on the dates you're considering.

last two posters,
what was wrong with kaplan?
the way the approach the test. The test questions dont accurately reflect what will be on the test and their test strategy is horrendous. I read all the Kaplan review books.. and it was boring.. right now im half way done through the PR books, and the way they explain is much better in my opinion, the examples the use really reinforce the material, unlike in Kaplan, with the questions in the end of each chapter, just test if you like memorized a specific formula. Last time i studied only with Kaplan, perhaps if i had supplemented it with other material i would have done better.. but this time around I say F*** Kaplan, i'll just use their flashcards to test myself a bit. Anyways, goodluck!

i've only gone to 1 kaplan class, so i can't offer much opinion about the class.

however, they have so much material to use outside of the book you bring to class. in addition to the materials for the actual class, you also get access to all the aamc practice exams, in addition to about another 8-10 full length exams from kaplan. they also have a ton of quizzes and reading materials (like pdf files on-line, various problems, etc) outside of class. i'm not even sure if i will have time to buy and read EK or PR material, as i think there's more than enough with Kaplan? am i wrong in thinking that?

well i am retaking the exam and here is my study plan:

I am starting on monday with my biological sciences part up until the 17 of January... then I am starting with tutoring for the physical sciences (where my biggest weakness is) for two hours a week at the end of the week, I will be reviewing during the week on my own until that day. Then I plan to study verbal and biological again from feb 14 until march 16. Then the 17 till the 13 of april I plan to study with a private tutor again for two hours a day seven days a week. I plan to do a practice test in that feb to march gap and then more frequently in the last four weeks before the exam. I also plan to use the kaplan flash cards to quiz myself once I finish a section as well as some topical tests that i have from some books.

It might seem a little scattered but I cant study the same subject everyday for 3 hours a day like that, I have to scatter it, sometimes bio sometimes physics... if not I know I will explode... hahaha

Well I plan on destroying the MCAT this time, now that I know what I am doing
lets all keep in touch, maybe start a forum for us april 18 people (or keep using this one) to keep each other pumped and focused... lets do it!!!:luck:
