Aps??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So my poster got accepted, so I am definitely going - mine is Friday night, poster session 4 I think.
Will anyone else be there?

I'll be there...I got stuck with the first session (Thursday night) and the last session (Sunday afternoon)...I guess I will be in CHI for the duration!

I will be there. Although I am not presenting at a poster session, I will be chairing a student event!! And I think I am more nervous about that than I was about the poster presentation at APS last year 😱

I am not this year, but APS is one of those I might hit up in the future.

So many good conferences to go to, and not nearly enough time to go to them all, let alone become a regular at them all!

So...any suggestions on my issue: I'm trying to decide when to go...if I should come Thursday, stay over Thursday and then present Friday and leave Friday night. OR if I want to fly in Friday morning, present Friday, stay over, and leave Saturday...

Blah, then there is the cost of hotel and there's the issue that the hotel is 35 mins from O'Hare. Wow, this will be the first time I'm even on a plane...craziness..

The great thing about APS, I find, is that the oral presentations are all pretty great. The full schedule isn't up yet, as far as I know, but the dates and times of MANY of the invited talks are posted on the APS website now. There may be people presenting on Saturday and Sunday that you'll want to check out. If you're already paying for the flight, an extra night or two in the hotel (especially if you can find people to share) might really be worth it. I know money can be tight, but APS is amazing and I can't imagine leaving after a day and a half. 🙂

The full schedule is supposed to be up and running sometime today - so before you make any arrangements I encourage you to take a look at the schedule as there are many great speakers and invited talks this year.

One of my professors told me to look on the APS website to see about volunteering at the conference to have the registration fee waived...but I don't see that anywhere on there?

You can do the travel assistance program. You have to submit an application and its due March 31st. Is doesnt waive the registration fee but you do get a check of 200$ at the end of the convention in return for 6 hours of volunteer service. Volunteer services include (this is what is was last year in DC) working at the registration desk, working at the internet cafe, counting heads in talks, directing conference attendees around, etc...

Its not a bad deal. I did it last year and got a free APS tee-shirt out of it on top of 200$. The 6 hours goes by pretty quickly also. Feel free to PM if you want to talk more about it.

If anyone is familiar with Chicago and surrounding areas, can you PM me? I have a few questions! Thanks!

Hey all!

Curious who all's going to the Association of Psychological Science's annual conference in Chicago this year (May 22-25, 2008). Anybody else presenting? (professional or student division?)

*MOD NOTE: Thanks for the link, merged!*

I'll be there. 🙂
