Just finished junior year, and will be taking mcat in august. I'll be applying for the following cycle. I am a nj resident. I just want to become a physician whether its MD or DO, really doesn't matter to me at this point.

Are my grades competitive?

Overall GPA: 3.59
Science GPA: 3.35 (if math counted which it doesn't it would be around 3.4)
Non-science: id probably guess around 3.85. I've definitely taken more non-science courses than science.

I just want to be a physician, and I'm legitimately worried that this may not happen.

What MCat score should i shoot for? I'd be happy if i got into PCOM, DMU, MSU-COM, and UMDNJ-SOM(NJ resident)

Your cGPA are above average for most DO schools. sGPA is not great, but should be okay. Aim for 26+ on the MCAT.

With a 26, you will get in, but you are slightly below average for the schools you listed. Still possible, but sure for a 28+. That would put you about average. 30 and you can feel very comfrtable about the schools you mentioned and an acceptance would be yours to lose.

To answer your grades question, yes they are good enough. For MCAT, I would shoot for anything above a 26, preferably 27-28+ as most schools average around there. A 26 is on the lower end of the average spectrum.

27+ on your MCAT and you should be getting plenty of interviews, given you apply relatively early and assuming your ECs are good. GPA-wise, you'll be competitive.

thanks. I've just been feeling really discouraged the past two semesters because i always get about a letter grade to two letter grades higher going into finals, and then when i leave finals i always end up getting my current grades.

oh well. I just want to be a doctor I'd feel really good about being a DO if i got into one of the above schools (although i know it doesn't matter). UMDNJ I'm in state, so i think I've got a pretty good chance. not banking too much on MSU to be honest.

Since you are a NJ resident it would cost quite a bit to be OOS at MSU
