I am wondering about this. I know schools have more people on the waitlist that they will accept, and not just a few more but a lot. I am waitlisted at Tufts and know that there are a lot of people that get waitlisted. Classes start in about a month and I have not heard of anybody getting rejection letters.

Are schools legally obligated to send you a rejection letter? or do they just expect you to deduct your status on your own after the start of classes comes by and you hear nothing....

Well you will get the picture when the first day of classes comes and goes with you waiting at home.

That's also the point when the school will know that they don't have a spot for you. If they have the least bit of class, a letter will arrive a few days later telling you what you already know.

Legally obligated? I doubt it, but it is what's done.
