Are supervisors (not profs) allowed to be friends with students?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
On a related note, what do you guys think of a prof who slept with her ex student?
For some reason, I find it morally reprehensible even though he wasn't her student anymore. Thoughts?

If they weren't in any kind of professional relationship anymore, what's the big deal?

Huge age difference and I guess mostly, the fact that she was probably lusting after him when she taught him. It's eeky to me.

I got a female friend who's doing the exact same thing right now. 🙂

Pharm school.

I've had classmates hook up with TAs...nothing came of it even though everyone knew about it, even the professors (at least in one case).

Huge age difference = morally reprehensible? 😕 Better get used to it..happens more and more the older we get.

One of my professors is married to an ex-student. Even with an age difference, I really don't see the big deal with it.

Not necessarily huge age difference = morally reprehensible. It was a bit predatory. He was just a freshman.

If she had no power over him, it's not like he was an unwilling participant... Let people live their lives.
