I am sorry if I missed a similar thread to this but I have searched and searched the internet and I cannot find a definite answer to this? Are the Biology and Chemistry passages experimental for this year like it was last year? I am taking my first go at PCAT on July 10th, wish me luck everyone! (Hopefully I don't walk out of there looking like this 😱)

I'm taking it July 10th as well and I was wondering the same thing. It's my first time taking the PCAT. I have not taken organic chemistry or A&P yet so it should be interesting to say the least.

Actually Pearson never stated that the experimental question are exactly the passaged questions. Just that there are a certain mount of questions (usually 8/section) will be experimental and not count towards your real score. You will not know which are/aren't experimental so the message they stated was "try you best throughout the test".

But....I have read others believe only the rc/quant are random. your call.

Thank you! I just wanted to ask because everyone who was taking the PCAT 2014-2015 seemed confident that the passages were experimental so multiple people skipped them till the very end. I would love to do that too if the passages are experimental.

I'm taking my pcat this week also and would like to know about this. The practice exams from pearson had two passages each for both biology and chemistry (each passage had 4 questions). I skipped them and they did not count towards my composite score.. So hopefully the actual PCAT will do the same! And the questions were pretty obvious to point out because they were the only questions that didn't have the same format as the others (there was a passage that was included, as the others did not.)
As for math and reading, I am not sure. I think the experimental ones would be scattered; so there is no way to tell which one is experimental or not

My Kaplan course instructor told me this. I think they would announce it on pcatweb if there was a change. Try calling them

Guess I'm just not totally comfortable as it isn't explicitly stated anywhere. I'll probably just read them quick and see if the questions can be answered without using the passage (very common on the pearson practice).

They said that they will not count until 2016, just incorporating them into the test now. I have done the PCAT workshop and the lady went over that like 3x times. So if you are like me and taking it this july 10th then skip them and give yourself more time for other problems. You will be able to tell if they are research questions very easily, they are multiple questions that go with one passage, vs just a 1-1 with a question and choices. Good luck everyone taking it

we lucky they no make us take new PCAT

Answer them towards the END because even though they were experimental and introduced last year, I got word from a "source" that they will most likely be scored. Almost all of them. My source isn't some fellow student or a thug taking the PCAT, but fairly credible. Just my two cents. Save them for the last few minutes but do them. Read the questions first and try to answer them to the best of your knowledge.

I really hope you guys are right about the experimental questions.. I called Dr. Collins yesterday and he said there is a good chance of the passages counting towards your score... But then again he was unsure... When I took the Pearson pre tests, math was also scored only out of 40.. Well I'm Taking my pcat July 9th!! Good luck everyone!

I really hope the passages are experimental. I always skip over them on the Pearson Practice tests. I have looked over them and they are pretty daunting looking. Guess I'll just save them for last if I have time.

I was able to check out the new passage questions from a peer. They are definitely time wasters. Not because of the difficulty of the questions but because you had to eye where the question is referencing to in the passage and back at the question. The questions though are the same difficulty as the normal formatted questions. Some questions make you use inferences, references from the passsage, or test your understanding of the topic.

Lots of mixed opinions in this thread. I too am taking the test July 10th, is the consensus to just skip the passages in bio and chemistry and focus on the other questions? Really don't feel like wasting a lot of time on questions that won't count. They should make this more clear, it's really stupid that people who do each question (in fear that they may count) are at a disadvantage.

I read this forum earlier this week and was confused because everyone had mixed answers. I took it on July 9th (today) and I simply guessed on the passages and managed to get a 99 in biology and 95 in chemistry, so I figured they were most likely just experimental.. I would not waste any of my time on them. Good luck everyone!!!
