Do people refer to the USMLE as the board exams?

I know that after a person is done with their schooling, they take certain board exams in their speciality.

USMLE Step 1 is commonly known as the boards. There are also other "board" exams you take in residency to certify you in your specialty .

If you call them anything other than "the boards", a non medical person will have no idea what you are talking about.

um, since a lot of people fail their boards, i would advise them to tell their folks and relatives, it's an end of year exam, that way the dissappointment would be limited to yourself only...hehe😀

Lots of people fail their boards? Might want to double check on that one.
