Greets.

I'm working on my doctorate in Law currently but I really want a Masters in Psychology as well. One of my bachelor degrees is in Psych.

The problem is, law school takes up most of my time during the day, so I'm looking for an online program. I saw that the Palo Alto University has a distance learning MA that looked reasonable, since they have essentially the same courses and professors online as they do at the school. But is this degree worth anything? I have no idea if this is the "University of Phoenix Online" of Distance Learning MAs. Not to say anything bad about Palo Alto, I'm just in the dark about whether this is a respectable degree or not. I'm looking to get to the choppa when it comes to starting this up next year, so I get my MA around the same time I get my JD.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

What do you plan to do with your MA in Psych? What you're looking for in a program will really limit which programs would be good or bad choices for you.

If I remember correctly, Palo Alto University is the 'new' home of the former PGSP program, and it has a mostly-positive but somewhat mixed reputation for its PsyD program. Many of the faculty there are pretty solid, though (including some who seem to be associated with the online MA program). So, depending on your goals, this might be a fair-good choice.

Check out the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. They have a reasonable reputation and a variety of MA/MS programs.

If you are interested in forensic psychology, check out the University of North Dakota.

There is a bias (whether earned or not) against online learning in the psychology field. I believe that it is not an appropriate method of study for our field, but it it up to each individual to see if an online program meets their needs and career goals.

You may want to read/bump some of the previous topics on this, as there have been some pretty good discussions on the pro's v. con's of online psych degrees.
