Are there schools besides LECOM that will interview without a DO LOR?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From my understanding, most DO schools give interviews without DO and only few actually require it.

Most strongly recommend.

i was looking at my LECOM admissions page. it said "DO LETTER NOT RECEIVED" (my school LOR service's fault)

i was under the impression that LECOM did require DO letter. is this incorrect?

Most DO schools require a DO letter, and those that don't will strongly recommend one.

As in you need one.

The DO letter is required prior to day of matriculation, it does not hold any negative sway if you do not have one at the time of the interview for LECOM. But like most others say, if you're applying for an osteopathic medical school, you probably should strongly consider having a DO letter as it is a strong form of endorsement/support from a credible individual in the field.

That is correct. LECOM requires a DO letter.

So it will be OK if you do not have a DO letter when you interview? On the portal it says you need one ONLY if you are invited for an interview...so if you show up to the interview without one your final review will not be negatively impacted if you do not hand them a DO LOR?

Thanks for your help!

I think LECOM has changed their requirement for when they want the DO letter. This was taken directly from my interview invite email (without the bolding):

".Please make certain all supporting documents (letters of recommendation from your college or university, a letter of recommendation from an osteopathic physician and MCAT scores) have been received in the Office of Admissions prior to the date of the interview"

.

CCOM definitely takes MD letters. I was accepted with an MD LOR.

That's correct--I interviewed and got in with an MD letter. I did mention I was going to shadow a DO in the future, and did before I matriculated, so take that for what you will.

The linked spreadsheet is out-of-date. I know that RVU accepts MD or DO letters.

NSU (Nova) does not require a DO letter, just a 'physician' letter.

You can always email the schools and get something in writing regarding their exact DO/MD requirement.

Just realized your question was 'for an interview'. With that said, I have an interview at Nova and not one of my LORs are there. I have a pre-health committee and they have yet to submit my packet with all my letters. I called Nova to tell them this after waiting a month after submitting their secondary with no word, and I received and interview invite the very next day. I'm thinking it doesn't hurt to tell them if that is your situation, but I may be reading too much into it. All in all though, you do not need any LORs for an interview at Nova.
