17 AA
17 Science
21 PAT

I have a 3.4 Gpa and applied a month ago. I applied to a lot of schools. I also play a sport in college and have research as well as shadowing experience. What schools do I have a shot at? Should I re-take? Thanks!

sweet pat man!

What schools will I have a shot at?

My honest take is that your GPA is average for dental school matriculants, and you DAT scores are below average for matriculants.

You can be succesful if you don't just apply to random schools--research schools that traditionally accept students with DAT scores such as yours.

Tell us where did you apply. I think the DAT is OK and the GPA is also fine.

I'd try taking it again just to be safe in Mid-August or so. It costs $160 (plus cost of mailing scores and you can pay more after you take the test) and a quite a bit of extra effort (well worth the cost if the alternative is having to apply again next year). I believe this attempt would be well worth the effort. I think shooting for a 19-20 would give you a solid chance of getting in to many schools. Even if you can get in with a 17, I'd rather take the test again and have more choices.

Good luck and stick with it! 🙂

By the way, your PAT score is wicked!

To be honest...I applied to like 30 schools. I got some financial help and I wanted to make sure that I got in somewhere.

If you have applied to 30 schools (i hope this includes many private once) you will get in somewhere. As Jessica said though if you are not lazy to study retake it - it wont hurt to improve your score and get to choose where to go.

Thanks for agreeing with me Boyan! 🙂

30 schools is quite a lot and would be very expensive. What schools are they? Are you a CA resident?

17 AA and 17 Sci? - based on this information, some of your other scores were below 17's... which ones were they?

apply to Marquette, your GPA is pretty good and DAT scores aren't as important there. PLus it sounds like you have some good extracurriculars

I got a 15 on QR...i'm a CA resident

forget about CA schools with that DAT. If you want to stay in CA you must retake.
