Let's say you have an ochem midterm in two days but you're not even close to finish studying. However, you have the option to write a deferred one a week from the original test day. The catch is, the deferred one would be much harder.

Who would actually take the risk and study for an extra week to take the deferred midterm.

Or, just suck it up and cram everything in two days while knowing that you probably aren't fully prepared?

FYI the first midterm average was below 50%.

Suck it up, and by "suck" I mean snort. Take some risk, get some Coke, snort it and study for 48 hours straight...

The poll kinda surprised me. I was expecting the "risk" to be the test 2 days away. I feel like it's more of a risk just going for it while you don't know the material than it is to study til you know it all, then take it.

Anyway, 2 days is more than enough time. I would just do whatever I needed to do to get the stuff down by then. A lot can be done in 48 hours.

BTW, is this hypothetical or did you prof actually offer this? If it's real, what a great deal.

Yeah, it is a real deal. But people who took the deferred before had avg. of low 40%. I guess that's why I'm scared ****less to take the deferred even though I want to.

Wouldn't take it, 40% seems like either it's a *very* hard exam or the students who took it before were not prepared. Which makes you think whether what you want to study for the deferred midterm is actually what is supposed to be studied...

But I shouldn't speak, starting ochem tomorrow so no exam experience besides the intro to ochem for my nursing major.

Lol...don't know where to get them.

Any other substitutes for 'Coke'?

Coffee and energy drinks don't last long enough for me.

Direct IV of either red bull or 5 hour energy...

48/5=9.6 5 Hour Energy's

The average for the deferred midterm could also be somewhat attributed to selection bias. The people who deferred are those that weren't prepared for the first test, so how likely is it that they really prepared for the second test? It may only be a little harder, but the average is low just because of the people who are taking it. Just something to consider.

realistically how much more prepared will you actually be if you defer it? i guess i am of the opinion that if you cant suck it up and cram for it within 2 days, a week might not be enough to make it worthwhile. get off sdn and start studying!

Right. I'd say that I definitely get 90% of my studying done in the few days before an exam. Anything before that is just a lot of leisurely reviewing. If I delayed it by a week, I'd end up in the same situation of cramming everything in, just a week later.

You are the second person I've seen use "write a test" as taking a test. Didn't even know this was common.

I think I saw one person say they were going to "Write" the MCAT last year...and now I see people "Writing" exams every other damn day on here...It just doesnt make sense to me.

how will the curve work for the second one? i'd just bet against my classmates and assume they will also do bad like they did on the midterm, thus the curve will save my ass...so i'd go with the first exam.

Cram it in 2 days unless you think you can cram for 6 six days straight and do OK on the deferred test and not fail this one in 2 days.

My bad. I guess I use both "write" and "take". But yeah, it doesn't make sense. I don't even know why I said that.

There's no curving in this class; not even for final exam. What I get is what I get.

Well, now there is only 1 day 'till D-day.😱
