This is to everyone... students in medical school, clinicals, doctors in residencies, doctors... people working in the health/medical field...

(1)When you wake up every morning, are you satisfied with your job/path you are heading?

(2)Do you feel that you are making a difference in the world (or feel that you will make a difference in the near future)?

(3)If you were paid half your salary, would you still continue your career?

Just some questions... if you have any thoughts or comments, please feel free. I just want to see how satisfied people are with their current direction.

Please be honest. It's okay to say that you wouldn't continue your career if you weren't being paid the same. That's quite alright.

Thank you!

yes
yes
yes, if no lawsuits and outrageous student loans

Yes.

(2)Do you feel that you are making a difference in the world (or feel that you will make a difference in the near future)?

Don't need to make a difference in the world, I try to make a difference in the lives of the patients to whose care I contribute.

(3)If you were paid half your salary, would you still continue your career?

Well, I was paid half of what I currently get, I would be eligible for food-stamps and medicaid and wouldn't have to work at all

But yes, if my future salary would only be half of what it will be, I would still go for it.

no, not until there is enough money in the account with which to make a difference in the world. and thats not in the near future

There are ways to make a difference that have nothing to do with money. 😉

1) yes
2) yes, although my career contributes to this, it is not the only source of my feelings of contribution
3) yes..and I did when I chose to work less when my children became school-age and I've never returned to full-time all these years later. But, I think your question was if my work were actually valued less for the same amount of time I devoted to it...my answer would still be yes because the value "I" place on it far exceeds that which my income reflects.

Essentially an adaptation of the fishing proverb:
Fish for a man, you feed him for a day.
Build a fish farm, you feed the community for a lifetime.

(1)Yes! Every morning I wake up with a smile on my face knowing that I am finally headed in the right direction. I couldn't be happier with what I have chosen to spend all of my time doing😉

(2)Yes... nothing world-altering, but hopefully for the patients I care for I will make a world of difference.

(3)Yes... I have tried to be happy doing so many other things - this is it for me=)

Yes, money + philanthropy can = great things. But that doesn't proclude you from making a difference in the meantime, before you have any significant wealth to speak of. Money may allow you to make a bigger impact, but even a small difference can be a big thing to one person. That's all I'm saying.

And I still think there are plenty of ways to make a big difference without a lot of money. How do you think a teacher, for example, would answer the OP's questions?

True. Good point.
