are you more competitive if you have finished all your prereqs when applying?

I have finished all of the lower level prereqs (gen chem, gen bio, gen physics, orgo, gen psych, calculus) but I believe some schools require like biochem, microbio, genetics, physiology, etc.

And in my school, anatomy is offered only for exercise science major and the premed kids usually take systems physiology (1 semester course). Would this satisfy the anatomy physiology requirements for most schools?

My question is that I will be applying summer of 2013 but by the time of application, I won't have those upper level classes completed(except biochem). Is it ok if I finish the upper level requirements later?

I also have my DAT done.

thanks.

As long as you have the rest under "planned coursework" before matriculation, then yes, you'll be fine

and would a letter from a psychology teacher counts as a letter from science prof?

sorry for asking so many questions

1. You would need to check with indiv schools regarding the A&P req
2. Yes, LOR from psych prof satisfies req

I really appreciate your response. Should I call the schools directly or can I just email?

thank you.

Most are on break until Jan 1st or 2nd, I'd call. Keep in mind that they're about to start their second round of interviews for remaining seats in the class...so it might be difficult to get through

Alright. I will try calling and emailing them then. Thank you very much for your help.

Strictly speaking, you don't have to have all of your prereqs completed before you apply so long as you plan to take them. However, regarding whether or not it makes you more "competitive," I think it could. The schools have dubbed the prereqs the most important classes to prepare for dental school, and if they can see you've successfully completed and made high grades in all of the classes they think are important, that must look good--it makes you seem like less of a liability. But hey, who knows!

Let's keep in mind that an application is being considered on the basis of what is being presented (present) rather than on what the future performance, which or may not come to fruition.
