Hi,
I'm days away from graduating at NYUCD and will be leaving my apt at the end of June. My lease ends on June 30 and my landlord will be looking for a tenant to fill my place very soon. I'll tell you a bit more about my location.
I have lived in Hoboken NJ (directly on the West bank of the Hudson river) with my wife for the past 4 yrs while attending NYUCD. It has been a great location that offers a very happy medium btw commuting time, cheaper rent and a really great place to live. Hoboken is a very upscale, young, safe, good night life and yet a bit quieter then the city.... but close enough to be there in minutes. It's a really nice balance to big city life, especially for my wife and I who were from Canada and not that used to it. It is also great for young families since there are many parks, schools and other young families.
Rent: cheaper, I am paying $1600 per month for rent, plus utilities (electric~30/mo and heat~60/mo in the winter) it's a 1 BR with a largish living room(by NYC standards) and big bedroom and walk in closet.
Commuting: ~10 min walk to the path, the Path ride is ~15 min into the city, the walk to the school is about ~15 min, Total commute about 45min. A monthly unlimited path card is $65 which is cheaper than a metro card and MUCH cleaner and safer, all business people.
This place would be a great place for a young couple or roommates wanting really cheap rent, even for someone wanting to live on their own. The amount of space you get for your money here is much more than in the city. The light in this place is amazing. 3 large windows on the west and east side of the apt. Huge amount of light in the AM/PM. The Land lord are a very nice NJ couple who are very in touch with their place. They are around almost every weekend doing something or other. There are 4 apts in the building, basement and 3 floors. All the other tenants are young adults mid -late 20's and quiet, one of them is actually another dental student from UMDNJ. The building is an older walkup, it is kept in nice shape and there are no bugs! Try getting a place in NYC with no bugs or rodents 😀 There is no laundry in building (like almost all other old buildings in NYC/NJ), but Laundromat/drycleaners 2 min away.
I am interested in leaving much of my bigger furniture here so if you are interested in moving into this place I would be happy to work something out. There is a king size Ikea be and mattress, dining table and chairs, futon/couch in the living room, TV stand and TV/DVD, and maybe book shelf, and desk/office chair and filing cabinet (but these are going to be in a stoop sale this upcoming weekend, if they are left or you get in touch early enough they can be yours too). This has the potential to be a very stress free turn-key apartment if you are interested in that.
Feel free to ask any questions, about the place or advice in general. Feel free to send PM if you want to stay private.
Thanks
will post pics soon.
