im a 3rd year at ucsd...i was originally a human bio major but didnt do too well in those classes so i transferred to studio art. i want to go to med school [--> reconstructive plastic surgeon], and am not sure how to get there...

i dont get the best grades in math/science [never ending personal/family
problems coupled with lack of motivation and spiraled study habits], yet my other passion - art - i get all A's in.

*do i increase my 2.7 GPA with strictly art classes ...and graduate with an art degree at a school that is known for the sciences?....and do the post-bacc route?...which would cost much more money [broke] and time....

*or do i get the bio degree with a probably not-so-great GPA ...[and most likely double major with studio art as i think id go insane otherwise].....but have the bio degree just in case...but perhaps have to do post-bacc also? [but will have spent money for the extra 2 yrs at ucsd]??

:scared:

Art degrees require an insane amount of studio time. If you want an easy major choose something like communications or sociology. You would be suprised how busy an art major can be. My sister is majoring in art and she complains of often having to pull all-nighters just to get her projects finished. If you want a blow off major, just do communications.

One last thought though. If you cannot perform in undergraduate sci courses, you should be concerned about being able to pass med school courses.

Best of luck

i dont want a blow off major...if anything, i want to come out with a good degree [hence, why im hesitant to solely graduate with an art degree, versus doubling with human bio].

the studio time isnt too much of a problem...its a lot of work, but id rather pull all nighters in the studio than reading physics/chem.

[my issue is the GPA thing...
do i do all art and get a better GPA or get two degrees and have a lesser GPA?]

Whether you take the science courses now or later, you MUST get all A's in them. This is generally true, but is doubly so in your case since you already have some poor science grades on your transcript.

If you enjoy art, are getting A's in it now, and are willing to take a little longer to get to med school (a good idea, as you are still young), then finish up your art degree, then go take the science courses later and rock them. Having an art degree won't hurt, and might help in the admissions process, since you'll stand out a bit from Joe average bio major.

If you don't care that much about Art and want to get to med school ASAP, then switch back to Bio. But you have to rock your classes--no two ways about it.
