Crap, now they are even better than anesthesiologists.

I like to remind people we are at war here And to keep the fire burning. Crnas try to convince themselves and others that they are as good or better than we are at keeping patients safe perioperatively. Please attend a state anesthesia society monthly meeting and have the president put up for discussion introducing a bill in your state to allow practice privileges for AAs if your state currently doesn't allow AAs to practice. If you are in a state where AAs are allowed to practice please highly consider hiring them.

Thanks for the plug for AA's!

If your state society is interested in AA-enabling legislation in your state, PLEASE contact the ASA and AAAA for assistance. PM me for further details if you need them.

He couldn't even stop himself from getting Parkinson's.

Well, in his defense. Lou Gehrig could not stop himself from getting Lou Gehrig's Disease either. What are the odds that Lou Gehrig would get "Lou Gehrig's Disease" and what were his parents thinking, naming him that. You wouldn't name your kid "Astrocytoma" or "Hirschsprung" and then be surprised when they developed that disease. I think Lou Gehrig's parents get an "F" in the baby naming department.

Canada’s First Nurse Practitioner in Anesthesia Care Program Celebrates Recent Graduates

http://bloomberg.nursing.utoronto.c...esia-care-program-celebrates-recent-graduates

The graduates of this intensive one-year program, Kevin Zizzo, Charlotte McCallum and Heather Whittle walked away with more than a piece of paper; they became part an elite group who have the distinction of being pioneers for this NP-A role.

Opting to do their 600 hours of clinical placement closer to home, McCallum and Whittle were the first students in the program to branch out from a Toronto hospital to London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario.

I'm sorry...what? 600 hours is less time than most medical students are supposed to spend in class in one semester of medical school. That's more or less 7% of an anesthesia residency (60h/wk * 48 wk/yr). I know this topic has been beaten to death and I know anesthesia has been made incredibly safe over the past few decades, but honestly what?

Granted, they don't make mention of independent practice of graduates of this program, but I for the life of me couldn't see any layperson who knows all the facts placing their life into the hands of someone so inferiorly trained. But I suppose that's the issue - laypeople just don't know.
