As a general rule, do schools accept "leap frog" classes?

Let me explain. I've taken College Algebra. The University of Minnesota requires an intro Calculus course, so instead of taking Pre Calc, I'm taking Applied Calc. Both Pre Calc and Applied Calc have College Algebra as a prereq, so I could skip Pre Calc.

I will probably do some contacting, but for anyone who has done this or has knowledge about it, is this usually acceptable or no?

Not entirely sure what you're asking. Applied Calc is a class for non-math majors, no? Minnesota may want a full-blown "Calculus of One Variable" course, like they would Chemistry or Biology. You'd definitely have to double check with them about that one. Send them the course description and see what they say.

If you're asking about the prerequisites to the PT prerequisites, schools don't care about those.

Yea I don't really get the question either. If the PT school wants a calculus class and you take a calculus class, why would the PT school care what your universities pre reqs to the calculus class happened to be? Of course verify that the calculus class you are taking is acceptable to the PT school. That's kind of a separate but related issue.

I'm not 100% clear on what you are asking, but if you mean do the classes leading up to the prereq itself matter (ie Algebra>Pre-Calc>Calculus vs Algebra>Applied Calc>Calculus), no I don't think it matters as long as you get the Calculus prerequisite completed.

If you are asking if you can take Applied Calc instead of Calculus, you should email the school and see if it will fulfill the requirement or not.

Sorry for making the question confusing. What I meant was to say that the U of Minn requires intro calc, but most schools require nothing more than precalc, and so I wondered if intro calc would count towards their precalc prerequisite.

But having looked closer at the schools I'm considering, none of them besides the U of Minn requires precalc math or above, so it isn't really an issue. Thanks though guys.

If a school had a precalc requirement I'm sure they would be happy to accept a higher math class in its place...you could certainly ask

The vast majority of schools are only looking for stats as a pre req...there are only a handful that specifically require any math classes.
