We are thrilled to celebrate the Residency match success of our client, D., who secured a spot in one of their top-choice programs!

D. applied to 18 programs, carefully selecting locations that met their personal and professional goals. As a foreign medical graduate from a working-class background and an ESL speaker, they knew the process would be highly competitive. Like many applicants, D. wanted to present the strongest possible application—one that reflected their skills, experiences, and dedication while remaining authentic.

D. came to Asclepius Advising through a prior client referral and began working with advisor Julien on application strategy, personal statement development, and interview preparation. From the start, it was clear that D. had the qualities of a great physician- now, it was about making sure their application communicated that effectively.

One of the key challenges was the personal statement. Writing in a second language requires balancing clarity and authenticity, and D. wanted to ensure their statement felt natural- refined, but not over-polished. They knew that a "perfect" statement could raise red flags if their interview voice didn't align or it seemed too fluent. Together, D. and Julien crafted an authentic statement that embraced their unique voice while maintaining a strong narrative.

The result? 11 interview invitations, including from highly competitive programs where FMGs rarely receive opportunities. In four interviews, D. was specifically complimented on the strength of their personal statement and CV.

Interview preparation obviously played another crucial role. Interviews are unpredictable; some are highly engaged, while others seem indifferent. Some focus on clinical knowledge, while others test adaptability. To prepare, D. practiced across a range of interview styles, ensuring they could navigate any scenario with confidence.

By the time the real interviews arrived, D. wasn’t just prepared- they were ready for anything. Instead of worrying about perfect answers, they focused on clear communication, adaptability, and presence. That preparation made all the difference.

On March 21st, D. matched into one of their top-choice programs. It was the culmination of months of preparation, reflection, and strategic execution.

Every application cycle presents new challenges, but the core principles remain the same: thoughtful preparation, strategic storytelling, and confidence in the process.

We’re honored to have been part of D.’s journey and look forward to helping the next group of applicants put their best foot forward.
