Quick question. . . I have an interview with ASDOH coming up and I was told that I would be given a dexterity test at the interview. Is this new? Does anyone know what that means or what would be involved with that? Thanks

I believe that ASDOH requests that their interview process be kept confidential and not to be discussed (this is why there is no feedback for this school in the dental school feedback section). Having said that, I believe that the manual dexterity test isn't something that's new for this year.

Seriously, don't worry too much about it. They just have you stick your hand into a bowl of scorpions and you have to pick out as many as you can before getting stung. It's crazy.

Really though, it's nothing to worry about. Just relax and try your best.

I heard you compete against the other interviewees

I should probably stop talking now, they may be watching.

practice with jenga and you'll be fine

personally... i think that they should have these tests on the DAT... as the PAT.... and you have to get a certain time or something... i think that would be interesting.. not very practical though

In the past they have done the perdue pegboard test. The faculty slipped it out at their open house last year that I attended. I think the biggest trick is to just stay calm and don't stress because thats when you start fumbling and start freaking out. I've heard from friends at ASDOH that it's not that bad.

The test involves tossing popcorn into the air and catching it in your mouth. That is followed by flipping silver dollars across all the knuckles of both hands simultaneously. Finally, you have to stand in front of a target and let fellow interviewees throw knives to break the balloon held between your teeth- of course, you'll get your turn to throw the knives, too.

While you are boning-up for the interview, make sure you read your old biochemistry text and pay particular attention to the fatty acid oxidation pathway. Know all the enzymes for each step, their optimal pHs, the control methods and controlling enzyme chains.

Oh yeah, I don't want to give away too much, but be sure to bring a programmable scientific calculator with you. While not entirely necessary, one that can solve 3rd order differential equations would be a good idea.

Don't worry, you can do it!
