I know this had been batted around before but looking for some up to date advice/opinion:

Is you did not have the budget for both ASIPP and ISIS dues which would you join/renew?

And why does ASIPP have a seperate state fee? I have never heard from my state society and two members of the board are from a practice that uses NPs/CRNAs/ and PAs extensively including for disco's , RFA, etc. I cannot support that kind of ___.

My sense (and tell me if I'm wrong): ASIPP does lobbying (good), but offers quasi board cert to non fellowship docs and weird courses (bad). ISIS lobbies less? but has excellent courses/conferences.

There is a political battle between ASIPP and others....I don't know the details at all but from what I heard people say about it, it did not put ASIPP in a good light.

But here is a good exersise, pull up the ASIPP journal, say 3 to 4 issues, and see if you can identify a single author in about 50% of the articles. Then look and see if that single author has any leadership position in ASIPP. Then once this individual has been identified, look at some of his ideas now and see if they are completely different from what he was saying maybe just 3 years ago (they are by the way...but maybe you should check it out for yourself).

If that isn't a red flag, I don't know what is.

From my simple opinion, the ASIPP higher-ups seem to be bullies. Although Bogduk seems a little like that as well from the ISIS side.

I dont find the journal that helpful and the big "ASIPP" group in my state seem like crooks to me. I do like to support lobbying though. I'm not planning on going to an ISIS course for a while so I may just wait and not join either. Stick with AAPMR for now as I'm going to the conference anyway.

Thx

Nerds (Isis) vs Jocks (asipp).

Good and bad docs in both. But if an organization is geared to ensuring access and payment- it may have more
Members biased on getting more money from their practice patterns.

Don't talk bad about uncle nik. I'll kill you.

Isis assassins guild.

See you in Florida.

i got that same notice from ASIPP - i don't know why i am paying for a state society - although technically i am a state ASIPP officer (3 years ago), but no meetings/activity have occured since then...

i am going to just pay the national dues...

Just FYI: ISIS is approximately 95% US physicians and politically intervenes almost exclusively in US issues. I agree in belonging to more than one organization is fruitful.

Bottom line advice I have for EVERYONE... BELONG TO BOTH!!! (Hell, you'd best also join AAPM and ASRA as well.)

We need to quit the bitter infighting cr@p. Certainly we need more research and innovation in the field. We also need to heavily leverage our position on both sides of the aisle politically to preserve our specialty and ensure continued access to our services and payments to us (because I sure as heck didn't take on $250,000 in student loan debt expecting NOT to get paid for services rendered).

Both groups benefit us. ISIS does the research necessary to support our field scientifically and develop innovations to improve our field. Where it fails us is that it is "INTERNATIONAL", it has a lot of physicians, many in leadership positions, who practice in a far different environment than us AMERICAN physicians and can't relate to the practice realities we face.

ASIPP does the lobbying to support us politically and develop the relationships to try and ensure that we aren't pushed to the periphery politically.

BOTH are necessary and have a place.
👍

In the past, ISIS has portrayed itself as 75% US, 25% Aussies and Kiwis (with a small smattering of Europeans)- has that changed recently?

Yes....over time..... It is mainly a US operation although there is a small European contingent and only a handful from Oz

That's the first time I've seen someone stutter while typing... 😀

Around 4 years ago, ASIPP put out a proclamation on their website about interventional pain medicine being the practice of medicine only. This disappeared. I contacted the ASIPP office on three separate occasions since then trying to locate this statement and have had no response. Does anyone know if ASIPP has a document stating what many other medical organizations have stated about interventional pain being the practice of medicine?

I can tell you at the meetings Lax and the other constantly state it is the practice of Medicine. They are pretty unwavering on that point from what I've seen. I've been to 3 of their national meetings.

I also recently joined ISIS. It seems like a great organization as well. I'm pretty excited, recently got their official certificate in the mail👍👍

Both have their pluses.
