I have scribed for an MD for over 6 months and she knows me really well. But DO schools mostly require an LOR from a DO.

I don't really have time to shadow for more than one day... I'm always either working or at class. The DO I'm thinking of shadowing works at the same practice as the doctor I work with.

Would it be possible to just shadow him for one day, ask for an LOR, and immediately send out my DO apps?

Stats (everyone knows by this point): ~3.5 gpa 520 MCAT

You could ask for a letter if you make a good impression. The problem is, how long is it going to take them to write you one? You definitely have a great MCAT so you could apply later than most, but if it starts to drag on for months before they complete it, it'll get increasingly tougher with the cycle dragging along.

I got a DO letter after 8 hours of shadowing. You won't get a strong letter after only one day, but it should be sufficient to check the box. Make sure you still submit your MD letter as well since many schools will still look at it and it sounds like it would be a much stronger letter.

Have you had any interaction with the DO before? I got my letter from a DO that I shadowed twice, but have known the DO since high school. I asked about the letter prior to shadowing at all and was lucky enough that it was completed prior to even shadowing. The DO just waited to send it in until after I did my shadowing. I know these might be rare circumstances, but if you know the DO they could start on the letter so it's not too late.

I got a letter from a DO after one day. He was enthusiastic about it. I'm sure it wasn't very tailored to me because we met for literally 3 hours but it must have been at least decent because I got in haha. I would go for it. If the DO hesitates then don't
