Assigning LOR

I have a couple questions:

1) I have one LOR that hasnt been submitted yet. I have been told by the writer that it should be submitted by the end of the month. That said, should I assign it to a school if it hasnt been submitted yet?

2) When a school says wait until secondary to submit LORs, does that mean wait until secondary to assign it or should I assign it now?

1.)If you are SURE it will be sent, you can assign it or not; if you don't assign it now, you can always assign it later. On the other hand, if you assign it and if it doesn't get sent, there is a process to tell the school that it is not going to show up. I would prefer the former to the latter.

2.) You can assign any time. They won't get sent until the secondary.

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it! I have one more question. I have a pre-med committee that meets at my school, but doesnt meet till late September/early October. People have recommended that I go ahead and send individual letters instead of the committee letter, explain the situation to the schools, and the submit the committee letter when I can. Where would I be able to explain? Is it on the secondary somewhere?

There is a usually a section where you are asked if you have anything else you want the school to know. I don't even think that is important enough to mention though.

Actually, it can be quite important depending on what school the OP attends. For undergrad schools where to get the letter you need to "qualify" or the letter is a formal endorsement they don't give to all applicants, it can be a red flag if you apply without having that letter (the implication being that, for some reason, you didn't qualify to be endorsed by the school). For schools that write committee letters for everyone who applies then yes, it's less important.

OP, as long as your school is in the latter category, I'd do as the others suggest and go ahead and submit individual letters and send the committee letter later. Adcoms are aware of what each school does and will interpret when/whether you have a committee letter based on the standards of your school...it sounds like you're getting your letter when your classmates will be, so don't worry too much about it.
