It was a nice meeting. The plenaries and clinical updates were actually all relevant to me. Bolla could read out of a phone book and I'd jump up and down clapping.

My great regret was that I did not make it to the "Happy Birthday to ASTRO" thingie on Sunday morning. From what I understand, a woman sang happy birthday to ASTRO Marilyn Monroe-to-JFK-style and then broke into a rap number about RT. It sounded like ... something from Saturday Night Live. Did anyone by any chance record this on their phone-cam? If so, please PM me or direct me to your file-sharing website of choice. I really want to see it.

Thanks,
S

I was there....it was interesting and comical. Apparently she is the wife of some big wig radonc (don't know who). I know that there was a large studio-style camera in the Grand Ballroom that morning, and that there was a guy manning it. I am sure it will be included in any webcast version of the convention.

I thought the song-and-dance "Happy Birthday to ASTRO" was kitschy from the beginning, then it degenerated into being all-out bad. While every scientific meeting could certainly use a little T&A, the burlesque Marilyn Monroe "Dear ASSSSSS-tro" bit at the end was quite frankly embarrassing.

Then, sadly, the balloon drop that was supposed to be the climax of the show just fizzled, leaving a lot of us feeling unsatisfied and making the whole moment all the more awkward.

But I have to give props to the young lady who performed, since she certainly had guts. I can't really be critical of anyone who gets up on stage to sing and perform like that, since it's not something I could do, even in my wildest burlesque dreams.

... currently the Virtual Meeting is available at Astro.org for Sunday's session but includes only the Presidential Symposium, not the opening ceremony 🙂

I missed those festivities as well, but did make it there in time to drink a non-alcoholic mimosa.

I wasn't present, but I believe she is Bruce Minsky's wife. I only know this b/c when he came to our department as a guest lecturer, he mentioned this performance. She apparently is an accomplished hawaiin singer. Sounds like it was a nice bit.

I'm not sure how they came up with the idea for that number. It seems like a nice slide montage with accompanying music would have been more appropriate. I was frankly embarrassed by the whole thing.

my favorite moment had to be when some guy stood up during the prostate discussion session on tuesday afternoon and just started berating the presenter on his data (which was pretty tight). It seems that hes a big wig in the brachy world, but i dunno who he is. was anyone else there for the great show of un-professionalism?

Sadly, I too missed the burlesque happy birthday ASTRO song. word has it that it was great though. maybe we can get her to chicago next year--afterall it is a birthday every year!

Well ... I got to see a clip of it on a cam-phone video. All I can say is 'wow'.
