I applied and interviewed at both and I was wondering if you currently attend either school why did you choose that one versus the other? I really loved MWU because of their focus on clinical competence and the facility and professors were on par. I just had a better feeling at MWU versus ATSU. However, ATSU is about $25,000 cheaper and I'm sure I would get a good education there as well. Also, I am an older student and I've heard that ATSU typically has a much more diverse student population. However, ATSU is having some issues with professor turnover which is concerning. Any feedback on either school is much appreciated!

How was your interview with MWU? I go on Monday and I'm super nervous! (Sorry this isn't relevant to your question)

I have heard good things about both. Go with convenience and price. ATSU probably cheaper to live in too?

The interview was great! The professors that interviewed me were all really nice and the campus is very impressive. I felt like the interview was informal and it was more like a conversation. They had questions prepared but they weren't afraid to go "off script" to ask more personal questions about me and I could tell they were really interested in getting to know me as a person. When I interviewed at AT Still the interviewers asked questions strictly off the question packet and it felt a little more formal. In terms of the interview day at MWU, we had interviews first thing (which was great because we all just got it over with and could stop being so nervous), and then we had campus tours (actually some people did the tour first and then interviewed - they broke the group up into smaller groups), they did an information session that just went over specifics about the program, we met with the fieldwork coordinator as a group who just told us how she assigns fieldwork, and then we had lunch with the OT students in their dining hall. We also met with the program director who just went through your application quickly and made sure your GPA looked good, quickly scanned your rec letters, and just asked some follow up questions regarding anything in your OTCAS application. One question I struggled on a little bit was "Why MWU" so make sure you do some research on the program beforehand and have a good answer prepared. There were about 9 students total interviewing that day and I think that was pretty standard. I think they day ended around 1:30-2pm-ish. Let me know if you have any other questions! I really love the program so I'm hoping to get in! 🙂

YAY!!! Congrats!! I'm so excited for you!

Thank you for the info too! How exciting! My interview is at the IL campus, but I'm assuming it will be similar.

Can I ask how long between your interview and notification of acceptance? I interviewed there yesterday!

I'm also waiting to hear back from ATSU; interviewed on 11/21.
Choosing between the 2 schools would be tough (I don't have a decision to make yet, haha 🙂)

It only took about a week! I interviewed there last Wednesday. I interviewed at ATSU also on the 21st 🙂 Were you in the morning or afternoon group? What was your impression of both schools? Are you leaning towards one more than the other?

How were you notified of your acceptance ? Via email or another way?

I checked my MWU portal and noticed that I had an accepted student checklist. They next day they called me and then sent me an email.

What were some of the questions they asked at ATSU? Interviewing there in December

What were some of the questions they asked at ATSU? Interviewing there in December

They had a packet of questions and they didn't ask me every single question in the packet so you might have different questions. I don't remember all of them but here are a few:
  • they asked me if I felt like my academic record was representative of me as a student
  • they asked what is OT to me
  • they asked about specific situations where I had to stand my ground in group situations
  • they asked about situations where something wasn't going well and what I did to turn it around
  • how I deal with conflict in group situations
I think that's about it but I might be forgetting a few questions. Basically be prepared with specific examples of how you dealt with conflict and adversity especially in group situations because there are a lot of group projects during the program (the current AT Still students I talked to confirmed that there is a lot of group work). Be prepared to talk about your academic record and preemptively explain any bad grades (they might not ask you about specific classes but go ahead and bring it up and tell them what happened and how you overcame). It's not a "blind interview" meaning the interviewers have looked over your application before your interview.

Hey! I applied to ATSU October 7th how long did it take for you to hear back from them?

I applied to AT Still & Midwestern early Aug., was OTCAS verified 8/9. Interviewed 10/21 ATSU, Midwestern 10/26. Accepted to Midwestern 10/27, ATSU 11/2. So, there was time in there...it's still very early in the application cycle and first week of Oct is (what I would think) a very competitive app date for rolling admissions schools! Good luck!

I'm a current MWU student and I absolutely LOVE my program. We have quite a few older students in our cohort, and everyone is really close with each other. The faculty are awesome, and you really get to know them. They really want you to succeed and are always willing to help you! It is a challenging program (anatomy), but it can be really fun and rewarding! MWU in general is very student-centered - meaning they really cater to you and don't leave you hanging out on a limb to figure everything out for yourself. It is also important to note how interprofessionally focused they are - you get to work with students in many other programs and have some classes with them. The only downside for me has been the cost, so that is obviously something to take into account.
