Why is this reaction ATP + H2O --> ADP + Pi exergonic?

If you are inputting ATP, you are inputting energy. Inputting energy=endergonic?

Endergonic means absorbing energy in the form of work. Endergonic reactions are not spontaneous.

So will it always be backwards? If it's spontaneous ATP + H2O..then it's endergonic. If it's non-spontaneous (requires heat) then it's exergonic?

That seems soo backwards!

The energy is stored in the phosphate bonds. The bond is broken during the reaction. Energy is released on the products side of the equation.

ATP+H2O--> ADP+P+energy (exergonic - energy released)

ADP+P+energy-->ATP (endergonic-energy input)
