Attendance and dress code

I'm picking the schools to apply to on my AACOMAS but I just wanted to know, which schools have mandatory attendance and which have a dress code. I ask because these are two things that I absolutely want to avoid. For instance, I want to apply to CCOM but I don't know if I can handle mandatory attendance.

lecom has a dress code for sure...but i think attendance and dress code are the last two things you should be worried about. just apply to many schools, and see where you get in. then once accepted you can decide based on that. but i would worry more about getting accepted first. good luck!🙂

DMU --> No mandatory attendance (few exceptions),
Only dress code is no hats or pajamas.

I originally thought that. But now, when it comes down to it, i don't want to waste my time or, more importanty, my money on schools where I would be miserable. Obviously other aspects of the schools are important and I am in no way only picking schools based on their attendance and dress code policies, but these policies are important to me.

I didn't realize professional schools had these (with the exception of clincal rotations).

Here at NYCOM, class attendance is not required; however, lab attendance is. We only have a dress code during labs. For classes and the rest of the time you can where whatever you want.

Kirksville is pretty laid back as far as dress code and attendance. Although you are generally encouraged to go to all classes, not all are mandatory. Those that are required are noted as such on your schedule. All labs are also mandatory.

The dress code is fairly lax. As long as your clothes are not completely distracting or transparent, you are probably ok. Although hats are generally frowned upon, it seems that you can slide by wearing one to class.

Avoid NSUCOM even tho both policies are extremely lax... 70% attendance with no penalty.. scrub pants/t-shirt combo is wat a lot of ppl wear in my class..(rules state scrubs or nice clothes)

CCOM does not have mandatory lectures. I do'nt know where you heard that- you are expected to go but i know less than half actually go to class. Only labs are mandatory.

Really? SDN folks last year said they are in class all day till like 5 and then have no time to study afterwards. So you're saying they don't have to go?

When a school doesn't have attendance policy, you don't have to go to the classes. However, there are some classes taking attendance.

Different people learn different ways.

I would probably attend most lectures, but I really don't care if other people do as long as they know their **** when test time comes.

COMP has only one class with real attendance taking so far.

As for dresscode, no ripped jeans or anything too trashy. I don't know if hats are not allowed.

For our clinical simulation class, we do have to dress professional.

Why would you go to Med. school and not go to class???

Because for me, not only do I learn best just studying on my own, but also when I can strike at least some sort of balance of down time to keep me sane and rejuvinated for those study sessions. I've just heard from people that those who go to class all day end up studying all night and then get very little time for spouses & rest...two things that I will need to keep at least some of my sanity. I'm not suggesting that I'll never go to class, just that on some days i don't have to feel forced to go to a lecture when I'd rather study on my own.

i think i remember reading both touros have required attendance. (correct me if i'm wrong). they're at the top of my list, so feel free to not apply 😉

I don't go to CCOM, but after interviewing there and having a few friends that go there, I can assure you that there is NO attendance policy. I sat in on an anatomy lecture with my friend after my interview and there was maybe half the class there (if that). He informed me that certain people hardly ever show up to class, some people always show, and then there are others that routinely never show to classes the day after Monday night (tests every Monday, so large amounts of drinking occur afterwards).

They may have classes scheduled throughout most of the day, but it's definitely not mandatory.
