Hey are you guys planning to attend all the interviews for all the schools that you applied to (granted that you are offered the interviews)? Cuz I realize it's quite a bit of money to attend these interviews, especially if you're traveling far to get there... transportation fee, hotel fee, etc... But then again we already spent the money to send our AADSAS there and paid the school application fee so is it just worth it to attend all of them?

Why apply to them if you are not going to interview there. I think you should go to all the interviews you get becasue you might miss out on something really good by just not attending the interview. I know it costs money and trust me I am broke but it is small amont of money compared to your investment in the dental scchools.

I cancelled one, and plan to cancel others. I scared myself into applying to too many safety schools, and I can't afford to keep up the trend. I'll probably interview at my top 3 or 4 choices, and throw in a saftey or 2 ... if the timing of interview dates/interview invites works to my favor, that is.

Also, when schools see on their secondary that I applied to 14 schools, I can point out that I cancelled the interviews that weren't a top choice. Maybe that'll help, maybe not.

I am not attending all my interviews... fact is money matters. Cant afford it. Food on the table for my kid or fly across the country for a school that is way down on my list anyway. IMO.

I'm applying to schools in NY mostly as an excuse to get my parents to pay for the travel costs if I get interviewed. I don't get to travel much so I probably would go to all my interviews.

Haha... sounds like a plan to me!!! BTW: How tight are UC Davis biochem majors? I say very...

I am attending ALL my interviews. But chances are I will only get a few if I am lucky. Of course if I get accepted to one of my top choices, I will probably take myself out of the running at other schools before they can even grant me an interview, if money becomes an issue.

I would agree. There's this one really hard lab course that pulls everyone together cause without each other none of us could have passed it. Hard classes make you a lot of friends. Hehe.

I know just what you're talking about too... MCB 120L... Everyone in that class was great. We would have barbecues and stuff on weekends... all 30 of us. I just graduated from there as a biochem major 😉

I applied to 6 schools, and plan on going to all that extends me an invitation. :luck:

Why go to all interviews when everything seems to be rosy? I'm going to skip some of my interviews.

Go to as many as you can. Especially your state schools.

I'd say it's safe if you apply out of state an dget an interview at a place that interviews like 500 out of staters for 5 out of state spots. Then it's probably okay not to go thtat one because your odds are so low.

But state schools, private schools and places you like. Try to go on as many as possible.

That's the class! Haha. You guys had a bbq? Damn that's sweet. My class only had cake and pizza in the hallway while the TA wheeled out a keg of 50% ethanol from storage.

haha. MCB120L.. yup.. that class was hard, but it has been my
favorite class so far in Davis.. =)

I'll try to limit mine to about 5 interviews, if things look good.

I was planning to go to all interviews, but now I just feel I can't handle that much. I'm skipping 2 and a half days of school for traveling every week. And I'm also taking 4 upper division sci. classes for my degree (Microbiology). When I come back from interviews, I need to make up the hours I missed in the research lab. This's just killing me. No time for school. My grades were horrible on the second tests, barely passing 😡

But I'm also afraid that if I don't go, I might regret it later on. The worst case would be the schools that I went to interview didn't accept me, and I didn't go to all my interviews 😡

My plan is to attend the top choices b/f jan. If I am NOT accepted by jan 15th or so then I begin interviewing at other schools. I would schedule the interviews as I recieve the invites if I were you...even the spots after dec. 1st fill quickly.

Yeah, we had pizza and cake too. The bbq was arranged by one of the kids in my class. He just decided to throw a party one weekend and invited the entire class.

well waht's the point of applying to so many schools if you're not going to attend the interview?...if you have the leisure to pick which interviews you want to attend, then your stats probably weren't that bad to begin with...so why apply to so many if you won't attend the interviews?

i'd rather deal with the problem of picking interviews, than have to worry over being blindsided with only one or two invites. there are plenty of people with great stats, who don't receive interviews from certain schools, with no clear explanation why. seems a lot better for peace of mind to spend the extra couple hundred bucks, and start making decisions after the iview letters are in-hand.

stack the favors on your side.

you're saying what I am thinkin'

My limit is 6 (c'mon UoP!) and after that the bank is broke and the hole I've dug for myself after travelling is deep enough. It really helps if you can stay with someone who's gong to the school you interview at. Otherwise, the costs add up in a hurry.

Personally, I am going to go to all of my interviews. I have invested a lot of money in this whole thing and I am prepared to do whatever it takes to get in. (However I will not lower my standards, if you know what I mean) It just seems like a waste to not make every effort to get in. I do not have the luxury of interviewing at every school I applied to because I have not received invites, but I would definitely go even if it were one of the ones lower on my list. I just hope I get into one of the four that I interview at.

I don't plan on attending my Tufts or Michigan interviews. I felt badly not going, but honestly I'm tired of traveling and since I wasn't very interested in Tufts, I don't see it as such a loss. After five interviews, I need to focus on school for now.

I'm gonna stop after my 6th interview the following week. I feel like I can't spend two and a half days traveling everyweek. My grades are seriously suffering as I don't have enough time and energy to take care of them. Just hope I get in to one of the schools I interviewed at. As I'm attending interviews, I feel like I don't really like all of the schools that I'm applying. The most difficult interview question for me became: Why do you want to go to our school? Why does it fit you better than other dental schools? I found the questions were difficult because honestly I wouldn't want to go to their school if I got another choice.

That kind of question made me withdraw from a few schools and skip an interview.

This process is just too costly. I'm going to limit it to 1 or 2 more (max of 6/7). I still have to hear from 2 more. whichever one gives me the earliest day. Let's see which one is going to be the lucky school 😀 .
