Hi all,

My school sponsors student to attend Medical Associations conferences. I will be attending one of them, but I was wondering if someone knew whether or not I will be able to put that on my resume for residency. Is that a plus or is it pointless?

Thanks

you can, but it isn't impressive unless you are presenting research.

If it's a research conference you can definitely put it in your CV, if it is just something like an AMA meeting I would be hesitant to put that on my CV, seems kind of desperate.

You don’t put it on your CV unless you give a presentation or have a poster. However most research conferences want you to register as a member of their society/organization etc. In that case, you can put it under the “professional organizations” category. For example, last year I went to the Society for Neuroscience annual convention. I had to join the society in order to present a poster; so my CV has it listed under my publications section (as a poster) and under the organizations section. But these things definitely don’t matter as much as journal publications.
