Hello all,

What kind of clothes do we need for medical school? I don't have that many formal dress shirts/pants and I only have one suit. Most of my dress shirts are not formal and I have mostly casual chinos and jeans.

Do I need to purchase more dress shirts/ties and pants to go with the white coat for occasions that needs to be formal? Or the dress code isn't that strict?

Thanks!!

Depends on the medical school. For instance, ATSU SOMA requires students to wear business casual clothes all the time with the exception of OMT days, where scrubs can be worn. COMP Northwest allows students to wear whatever is comfortable. I would look into the policy of your school and go from there.

I know CUSOM is shirt and tie every day, plus mandatory attendance 😵

Expect business casual. LECOM for men is slacks/ shirt and tie every day from 8-5. No scrubs allowed at all. No jeans. OMM lab is shorts and T-shirt generally

NYIT-COM: sweatpants for lecture. Scrubs for anatomy. Semi-formal attire for clinical practicals (tie optional, but def dresspants and dress shirt) --> also same for 3rd and 4th year clinical rotations, but i would advise wearing a tie

I'm talking about occasions like exams where you have to wear a white coat or any other events that require formal clothing. Like is a tie mandatory?

I myself will be attending KCU. @AlteredScale

For standardized patient exams (OSCE'/SP's/CSA) you need to wear formal attire (tie/slacks/dress shirt and white coat is highly suggested). These occur about once every 2 months or so. You will also need to wear formal attire during Score 1 for Health which first year is only 5-6 times the whole year and probably 10 times second year. The only other times I can consider it required to wear formal is during grand rounds.

I have see classmates wear formal clothing without a tie but they were still dressed the part with a nice dress shirt and slacks.

How about like, going to class? No dress code right? I would be fine wearing a tee and sweatpants right?
