Hey ya'll. What have you been wearing to interviews?

Keeping fingers crossed that I get interviews--I will be wearing a skirt, nice top, and blazer with closed toe heels. Moderate make-up and jewelry. Hair back in clip.
I went with a black suit, light pink silk feminine shirt underneath and a (sensible!) wedge heel. Hair down and out of my face, light make-up and perfume. Avoid large/flashy purses, more hassle than anything else.

So is black dress pants/nice top/black blazer with closed toed heels okay?
Also, I hate wearing my hair up, is it considered appropriate to have your hair down as long as it's not in your face?

It's completely appropriate to wear your hair down. I am not a stuffy conservative person by any means but I'm still professional. I curled my hair in big curls and wore it down, and wore a black skirt with matching blazer and black stiletto heels. I wore a bright cobalt blue shirt and silver Tiffany jewelry. You want to show your personality in your outfit choices. Dont dress completely out of character for you, there isn't a "dress code" for anything, just the rule of professional dress. I got into every school I interviewed at.
I've given yours to prospective students, most of the females wear a pants suit or a skirt with a jacket. Make sure the skirt is appropriate length (near the knees). Heels should be closed toe, and something on your legs (not leggings, you're not 15) is never a bad idea.

Suck it up. There are some very old school stuffy conservative professors who will be very offended and think you improper if you don't wear pantyhose. It's ONE DAY. You can handle it. Wear knee or thigh highs if your skirt is long enough to cover the line if you want. But it's a big deal especially with the older generation. Guys probably hate ties, but if he showed up to an interview without one he would likely be shown the door.

I went to a wedding this weekend, and I made sure I wore nylons. It was a formal event.
The interview is professional--I'll be wearing nylons. As an optometrist, I'd wear nylons (except it is hard to perform an eye exam in a skirt) to look professional---so, only makes sense to do it for the interview.

Haha ok when I said "I hate pantyhos!!!" I didn't mean I wouldn't wear them. I just was trying to make a lighthearted comment on the stresses/discomforts of interviewing. I really wanted to wear a dress because I would definitely wear it more often than a suit in the future and therefore get more for my money. AND, a nice dress would definitely cost me less than a suit and blouse. Alas, I didn't want to risk offending the conservatively dressed interview gods and got a skirt suit. Thanks for the warning, though. It definitely makes me smack the thoughts of going pantyhose-less out of my mind.
As bad as this sounds, I've been told to wear a pant suit because of older individuals holding sexist views in the back of their mind (they don't even recognize it). Wearing a pant suit helps tone that down... at least that's what someone who used to do a lot of interviewing said. I'm honestly not even sure I agree with it though, just thought I'd throw it out there.
