Can we get a new subforum for COMLEX, Step 2, and 3? This one is almost entirely filled with Step 1 discussion and when it comes time to study for Step 2 and 3, it would be nice if you didn't have to sift through the irrelevant Step 1 posts. People preparing for only the COMLEX don't care either about Step 1. There was a new forum built for Osteopathic Journals so I think this is a reasonable request.

Agreed. 👍

I'm not taking sides on this, but I will say that during the summer, this forum is filled with step 1 stuff....during the winter, it is more step 2 dominant (as well as the usual "what books do I need to buy for step 1" threads)....I think it's just reflective of when the majority of people take each of the different tests. It was pretty filled with CS and CK stuff a couple months ago with a sprinkle of steps 1 and 3 thrown in there.

nerdy just got taken to a whole new level, either that or laziness not sure which. I’m assuming you don’t read every single step one thread, which means you have to sift through those. whats the big deal if theres a step 2 or 3 thread mixed in with the 100 step 1 threads.

Yeah, I'm lazy and I'm a nerd. Good assumption too (apparently you don't frequent this board much).

I will see what I can do about getting something done for the Step 2 and 3 takers. I don't think that is an unreasonable request. I think one reason you see fewer posts is that, by and large, students feel more confident having taken and passed one level already. Plus, you're studying for the Boards every day when you're on the wards.

The students taking the COMLEX rely on USMLE books sicne that's what's out there, so I think we will leave that be.

I would ask, though, that if this comes about, that people do the best they can to post in the correct area and try to use resources already on the forum (stickies, etc), rather than start a whole new thread on books for studying.

best wishes to all of you taking the Boards!

if you did, you'd know that pox already has the record for "most threads started in one week."

It may not be a bad idea to separate step2/3 stuff b/c they gets lost admist the mass of step 1 threads. Plus, you can't search using numbers, so it makes those threads harder to find.

Right now, we need to wait until we get the forum-stability issues fixed. Give us some time to take care of that first, then we can discuss this idea. 👍

No kidding. The search function dies on me all the time and it's definitely slowed down. I'm sure Lee's burning up the bandwidth though...this site must retrieve thousands of GBs worth of data in a database. More props to him though for this ingenius service to med students. 👍

I'm ready to get it done. It'll be sometime this weekend. 🙂
So if there is a new forum can I start a new "official step 1 results thread & correlations (eg NBME, Qbank, mcat, etc)." Since the one from last year turned into a big pissing contest between BF and SI. And could you guys make it a sticky?

I'm still contemplating the best way to do this. Just wanted to let you guys know that I haven't forgotten. 🙂
Those damned atomists are always looking for ways to carve up our beautiful forum into as many pieces as possible. If it were up to them we'd have subforums for people who want to work as hospital security guards and USMLE questions from people who scored between 28 and 31 on the MCAT.

I say all forums should be merged into a single organic whole! This would more accurately reflect our mutual interconnectedness and shared responsibility as members of the medical community. Broken Antennae living side by side in harmony with medicine rank-lists and angst-filled med school wait-list questions. Down with the schizmatic message board atomists!
